Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mordred Paine!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, DeShawn Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Patrick Alders and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson fails with an attempt to clinch.
A slapping leg kick lands for Johnson.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Paine tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Johnson defends well and Paine ends up having to push Johnson into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Johnson pushes Paine back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Paine tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Johnson has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.

and Paine counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Johnson darts in and clinches Paine up against the cage.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Paine has Johnson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Johnson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Paine fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Johnson with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
DeShawn Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Paine is breathing heavily.

Johnson scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Paine doesn't seem bothered though.

Paine gets control of Johnson's arms and successfully pulls guard. Paine will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Johnson controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Johnson enables Paine to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Johnson manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Paine passes Johnson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Johnson has Paine pulled in close to control his posture.
Paine stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Johnson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Paine steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Johnson.
Paine takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Paine sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.
Johnson drops his hands momentarily and Paine takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Paine fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Johnson avoids it really well and circles away.
Johnson darts in looking for a takedown but Paine gets double underhooks and turns Johnson into the cage.

Johnson stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Johnson wants it to stay on the feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Paine wants to stand and escape but instead Johnson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Paine seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Johnson won't allow Paine to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mordred Paine has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Paine tries to clinch up but Johnson circles away and keeps his distance.

Paine doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Johnson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Johnson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Paine moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Paine shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Johnson pinned against the cage. Johnson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
