PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sam Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pip Pop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hall kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Sam Hall. Sam Hall has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Sam Hall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Pip Pop!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall jabs Pop to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Hall connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Pop's hands.
Hall cracks Pop with a right hand to the side of the head.
Hall lands a nice leg kick that just misses Pop's sensitive parts.
Pop shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Hall as he jumps to the side.

Pop scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Pop controlling the pace.
Hall pushes Pop off looking to stand but Pop dives back in and keeps control.
Hall slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hall is trying to control the position but Pop postures up.
Hall wants to stand and escape but Pop is having none of it.

Pop trying to control but Hall is working from the bottom.
Pop trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Hall is trying to keep Pop in close.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Pop drives through with a takedown into Hall's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Pop postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Hall is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Pop, into his guard.
Pop looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hall is one step ahead there.

Pop controls Hall momentarily but Hall frees himself.
Hall trying to control but Pop is working from the bottom.
Pop trying to keep a closed guard but Hall is proving a slippery customer.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Pop shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Hall defends it nicely.

Pop clinches.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pop tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Hall lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Both guys are working to get underhooks.

A short right hand to the side of the head by Hall.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Pop trying to land knees to the body.

Pop is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Sam Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pip Pop.

Hall breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Hall tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Pop is able to avoid easily.
Pop fails with an attempt to clinch.
Pop tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Hall lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Hall misses with a low kick as Pop jumps back.
Pop takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Hall throws a nice outside leg kick.

Hall throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Pop.
Hall scores with a decent looking hook.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Pop throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hall's waist but Hall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Pop off to one side.
Hall connects with the punch.

Pop fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hall sprawls well initially but Pop persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hall gets back to full guard.
Pop trying to control the position from guard on top but Hall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Pop wants to pass the guard but Hall is keeping the position.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pop's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Hall is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Sam Hall will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Pop forces Hall back against the cage and clinches.
Pop tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Hall avoids it.
Pop is working for takedown but Hall is calmly controlling the position for now.
Pop tries to throw a body punch but Hall avoids it by throwing Pop back against the cage.

Pop turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Hall sneaks back into half guard.
Pop trying to control from half guard but Hall is working away.
Pop might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Hall haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Hall controlling the position for now.
Pop trying to mount his opponent but Hall defends it.
Hall makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Hall.

Hall is pulling down on Pop's head. It's preventing any offense from Pop, at least for the moment.
Hall keeping full guard, as Pop tries to pass.
Pop stopping the sweep attempt from Hall.
Pop scoring with punches to the head and body.
Hall looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Pop passes Hall's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Pop tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hall knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Pop frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Hall wants to hold on but Pop pushes him away.
Pip Pop has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hall sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Hall wants to get back to his feet.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hall manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hall pulls Pop in to control the position.
Hall preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Hall wants to sweep here but Pop controlling him for the moment.
Pop working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Pop's guard.
Pop wants to sweep but no luck.
Pop is pulling down on Hall's head. It's preventing any offense from Hall, at least for the moment.

Pop has his foot on Hall's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Hall works his way back into a safe position though.
Hall with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Hall tries to free his leg and advance position but Pop is retaining full guard.
Our spies down at at Gracie Barra Hilo (Sauna + Bang for your Buck) inform us that Pop has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Pop escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hall gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Pip Pop will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Hall fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Pop on the side of the head.

We've been told by Hall's head coaches at Axia Gym that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Hall stuffs the takedown.
Hall fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Pop looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Pop tries to clinch but Hall is having none of it.
Pop darts in looking for a takedown but Hall gets double underhooks and turns Pop into the cage.
Pop is trying to maintain a safe position but Hall gets an underhook and turns Pop into the cage.
Pop looking to throw knees to the head but Hall is blocking nicely.
Hall lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Pop tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Pop trying to stall but Hall improves his position.
Pop has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Hall avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Sam Hall has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Pip Pop.
Hall lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Pop breaks from the clinch.

A cross from Hall lands.
Hall lands a nice looking body shot.
Hall bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Pop's head.
Pop tries to clinch but Hall moves away
and Hall counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hall wants to slow Pop down by chopping away at his legs.
Pop takes one to the chin there.
The crowd cheers as Hall lands an impressive looking overhand right. Pop doesn't seem phased though.


Pop is rocked!
Hall throws a quick inside leg kick.
Pop takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Pop is still on wobbly legs! Can Hall finish him?
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pop looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
BOOM! Hall lands a beautiful left hook that drops Pop. Pop tries to recover but Hall is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Pop lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Hall!
After winning the bout, Sam Hall thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
