The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pietta misses with a takedown attempt - Shelton sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

and Shelton counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Shelton is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Pietta defends it well.
Shelton is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pietta is just riding it out for now. Shelton eventually gives up the hold.
Pietta wants to improve his position but Shelton is controlling well.

Shelton has control of Pietta's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Pietta regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Shelton has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pietta's face.
