PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gerald Minor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dustin Wagner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Wagner comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Hall of fame kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gerald Minor!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dustin Wagner!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wagner fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Minor manages to avoid it.
Wagner throws a hook to the side of Minor's head but Minor sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Minor fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Minor takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Minor clinches up against the cage.
Minor has Wagner pushed against the cage.
Wagner throws a punch but it's blocked by Minor.
Wagner is trying to maintain a safe position but Minor gets an underhook and turns Wagner into the cage.
Minor tries to score a body lock takedown but Wagner shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Wagner tries to throw a body punch but Minor avoids it by throwing Wagner back against the cage.
Wagner on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Minor is trying to pull guard but Wagner turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gerald Minor. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Minor blocks an uppercut.
Wagner fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Minor taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Minor is trying to trip Wagner. He has hold of a leg but Wagner is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Minor persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Minor showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Wagner is striking but Minor is not phased and passes to half guard.
Minor prevents Wagner from standing back up.
Minor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Minor has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've been hearing good reports from Minor's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Wagner is trying to stand up here but Minor is controlling him well.

Wagner throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Minor sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Wagner defending well though.

Minor is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Minor looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wagner is controlling Minor's trapped leg to prevent Minor from advancing to side control.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Minor gets a takedown into half guard.
Wagner wants to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Minor looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Minor is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wagner doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Minor.
Minor wants to control but Wagner is keeping him busy.
Minor has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Wagner is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Minor prevents Wagner from getting the reversal.
Minor controlling the pace for now.
Wagner tries to hold on but Minor postures up.
Minor lands a big elbow.
Minor sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Minor pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Wagner tries to reverse the position but Minor maintains control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Minor wants to control the pace but Wagner is squirming around nicely.
Minor is really struggling to control Wagner but he's trying to hold on to the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gerald Minor dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Minor drives through and clinches with Wagner against the cage.
Minor blocks the elbow strike.
Wagner is trying to break the clinch but Minor has him pressed against the cage.
Wagner tries to break the clinch but Minor is controlling the position.
Minor jumps guard but Wagner stands there with Minor around his waist. Minor gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Minor fails to pull guard.
Minor blocks an uppercut.

Minor breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wagner throws a right hand that Minor ducks under and follows up with a left that Minor also avoids with ease.
Wagner looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Wagner keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Wagner looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Minor!

Wagner wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Minor, who protects the arm well.
Minor might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Minor is trying to control Wagner's posture but Wagner avoids it.
Minor is trying to get back to half guard.

Wagner has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Wagner looks to land a right hand but Minor moved out of range.

Wagner gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Minor to score an easy takedown into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wagner wants to get back to his feet but Minor is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Wagner can't keep his opponent in guard - Minor advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Wagner wants to control but Minor is keeping busy.
Minor wants to take a breather but Wagner is having none of it.
Wagner looks like he's trying to stand up.
Wagner is breathing heavily.
Wagner blocking the ground and pound attempt from Minor.
Gerald Minor overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wagner is trying to stand.
Minor wants to free his trapped foot but Wagner is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Minor lands strikes from half guard.
Wagner felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Minor is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Wagner is just riding it out for now. Minor eventually gives up the hold.
Still in half guard, Minor seems content to control.
Minor passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Wagner!
Wagner is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wagner tries to lock up and control but Minor gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Minor looking to finish Wagner with some ground and pound. This is bad for Wagner!
Minor takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Wagner tries to improve his position but Minor has taken his back! Minor has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Wagner tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Minor pushes Wagner away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Gerald Minor!
The defeated Dustin Wagner had this to say: 'will do better next time'.
