Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Merle Jacobson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, LeRoy Basil!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Chris Dean and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Basil shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Basil fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jacobson could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jacobson fails with an attempt to clinch.
Basil shoots and misses
and Jacobson counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Merle Jacobson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of LeRoy Basil.

Jacobson closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jacobson lands in his opponent's guard.

Basil lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Basil drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jacobson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jacobson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jacobson!
Basil manages to get back to half guard.
Basil is looking for a sweep. Jacobson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are battling for position here. Basil manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jacobson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Basil escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jacobson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Basil had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jacobson defends it easily.
Basil looks winded!
Basil tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jacobson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Jacobson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Basil works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Jacobson has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jacobson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Basil's head.

Basil manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jacobson manages to get himself to full guard.

Jacobson is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Basil is controlling him.
Jacobson is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Basil looking to sit in guard and control but Jacobson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Basil working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jacobson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Jacobson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Jacobson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

LeRoy Basil dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Jacobson feints and as Basil raises his hands in defense, Jacobson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Basil is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jacobson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Basil lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Basil makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Basil is stalling in the full guard.
Basil looking to sit in guard and control but Jacobson gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Basil is trying to control the position but Jacobson postures up.

Basil working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Jacobson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Basil is tightening it up a little... Jacobson has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Jacobson reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Jacobson taps out! Nice BJJ there by Basil!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). LeRoy Basil!
