PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Pep (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erkki Elastinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pep comes to the cage accompanied by Iron Theme Song (Here Comes The Boom - Nelly). Elastinen has chosen Cascada - Dangerous as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 35 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Frankie Pep!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 25 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erkki Elastinen!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Elastinen is defended easily by Pep.
Elastinen tries for a takedown but Pep sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Elastinen dives in and grabs Pep's left leg, looking for a takedown. Pep pushes down on Elastinen's head and hops out.
Frankie Pep has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erkki Elastinen.
Donk. Pep catches Elastinen right on the button with a cross.
Elastinen shoots in for a takedown but Pep shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Elastinen shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Elastinen looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Pep is trying to stand.
Elastinen tries to pass the half guard into mount. Pep knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Elastinen throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Pep wants to try and get back to his feet.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Elastinen throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Pep because Elastinen loaded up on that one.

Elastinen wants to control the pace but Pep is squirming around nicely.

Elastinen is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Pep has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Elastinen has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Pep is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Elastinen drops down looking for an ankle pick but Pep pulls his leg out and moves away.
Pep tries to clinch up.
Pep tries to close the distance and clinch up but Elastinen swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Frankie Pep is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Elastinen looks for a takedown but Pep sprawls well.
Elastinen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pep is fending him off so far but Elastinen persists. Nope, Pep circles away and we're back to standing.

Frankie Pep has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Erkki Elastinen.
Pep lands a body punch.
Pep is pressed up against the cage. Elastinen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Pep down to the mat. Pep avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Elastinen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Elastinen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Pep's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Elastinen throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Pep has his hands clasped together but Elastinen breaks the hold and Pep is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Elastinen!
