PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Bastian Nokia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patrick Cote (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 26 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Bastian Nokia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Patrick Cote!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cote looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cote pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nokia is keeping the position for now.
Cote trying to control but Nokia is working from the bottom.

Nokia pushes Cote off and gets back to his feet.

Cote shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Cote seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Nokia does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Nokia keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Cote trying to control the action but Nokia is working from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Cote is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Patrick Cote.
Cote tries to close the distance and clinch but Nokia swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Patrick Cote seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cote feints and as Nokia raises his hands in defense, Cote changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Nokia has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Cote is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Cote pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Nokia gets caught flat footed, as Cote shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Cote wants to stand but Nokia is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cote advances position into side control!
Cote throws an elbow but Nokia slips to the side and avoids it well.

Cote goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Nokia rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Cote's guard! Nice work there by Nokia!
Nokia is stalling in the full guard.
Cote is trying to keep Nokia in close.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Cote throws a wild body kick that Nokia sees coming a mile off.

Cote looking to score a takedown here. Nokia is defending well but Cote drives through and ends up in Nokia's guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Nokia keeping moving, preventing Cote from controlling successfully.
Cote stops Nokia from standing up.
Patrick Cote has got the better of the ground game so far.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Cote would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Patrick Cote hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Cote scores with a takedown into Nokia's guard.
Cote wants to stand and escape but instead Nokia has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Nokia not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Cote throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Patrick Cote has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nokia kicks off Cote and gets to his feet.

Cote looking to score a takedown here. Nokia is defending well but Cote drives through and ends up in Nokia's guard.
Cote wants to control from the top but Nokia keeps moving.
Cote throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Nokia works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Nokia wants to get back to his feet but Cote is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Cote trying to control the position from guard on top but Nokia is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bastian Nokia wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Cote closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Cote lands in his opponent's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nokia wants to stand and escape but Cote is having none of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Patrick Cote showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!


Cote connects with a leg kick. Nokia looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Cote gets the takedown into side control.

Cote decides to stand back up. Cote steps back and let's Nokia get back to his feet.

Cote decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Nokia wants to get back to his feet.
Cote is looking to advance position but Nokia won't allow it.
Cote wants to stand but Nokia has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Nokia is staying active underneath Cote, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Patrick Cote hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Cote looks to clinch

and Nokia counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Cote will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cote wants to sweep but no luck.
Cote tries to strike from the bottom.

Cote looking to control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Patrick Cote wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cote feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Nokia wants to get back to his feet but Cote is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Nokia is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Cote is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Patrick Cote.

Nokia tries to sprawl but Cote drives through with a takedown into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Cote looks to land a strike but Nokia avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Patrick Cote comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Cote has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
