PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Kozlov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roman Yakimyuk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). He arrived on a last minute flight shortly after looking tired and unhappy. Officials decided the fight should still take place, much to the delight of the fans in attendance.
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Kozlov and Roman Yakimyuk. Roman Yakimyuk has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Ivan Kozlov's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 17 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ivan Kozlov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Roman Yakimyuk!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yakimyuk throws a right and a left that Kozlov avoids nicely.
Kozlov jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kozlov turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Yakimyuk takes a kick to the side of the head.


It looks like Roman Yakimyuk has been cut.
Yakimyuk's coach down at Homunculus Alembic was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Yakimyuk's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Kozlov tries a head kick but it misses.
Kozlov throws a hook but Yakimyuk avoids it easily.
Yakimyuk ducks under a wild hook from Kozlov.
Kozlov lands with a kick to the temple. Yakimyuk shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Yakimyuk throws a looping overhand right but Kozlov ducks down to avoid it.
A nice leg kick lands there from Kozlov.
Kozlov misses with a straight right.
Yakimyuk lands with a shot to the body.
Kozlov slips under a jab from Yakimyuk.
Kozlov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Yakimyuk tries to land a front kick but Kozlov steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Yakimyuk throws a looping overhand right but Kozlov ducks down to avoid it.

Kozlov swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and Yakimyuk counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Yakimyuk is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kozlov defends it well.
Yakimyuk looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Kozlov with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Kozlov wants to get back to his feet.
Kozlov trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
Yakimyuk not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Yakimyuk throwing shots but Kozlov is blocking nicely.
Yakimyuk thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Yakimyuk wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kozlov keeps working.
Kozlov avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Yakimyuk.
Kozlov tries to kick Yakimyuk off in order to stand up. Yakimyuk Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Yakimyuk misses with the ground and pound.
Kozlov bucks up and tries to throw Yakimyuk off but instead Yakimyuk has got his back!
Kozlov is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Yakimyuk.

We've been hearing good reports from Kozlov's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Yakimyuk is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Kozlov knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Kozlov for a finish.

Yakimyuk looking to break Kozlov's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Kozlov remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Yakimyuk will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Kozlov is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Yakimyuk is landing with strikes. Kozlov can't take much more of this.
Yakimyuk has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Kozlov's body.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kozlov has his hands over his head blocking the strikes from Yakimyuk.

Yakimyuk goes for a double leg but Kozlov avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kozlov continues to drive forward.

Kozlov is trying to maintain a safe position but Yakimyuk gets an underhook and turns Kozlov into the cage.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Kozlov creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Kozlov takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Yakimyuk catches Kozlov with a right, a left, a right. It's raining punches and Kozlov forgot an umbrella! Another punch and he's down. This one is over!

Our winner, Roman Yakimyuk, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
