PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zyd Canuck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dave Spiteri (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Spiteri comes into a darkened arena with his song building. AC/DC -TNT kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Zyd Canuck could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Dave Spiteri's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dave Spiteri!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spiteri scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Canuck doesn't seem bothered though.
Spiteri throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Canuck throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Spiteri tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Canuck is in Spiteri's guard.
Spiteri is pulling down on Canuck's head. It's preventing any offense from Canuck, at least for the moment.
Canuck loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Canuck drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Canuck jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Spiteri working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Canuck looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Spiteri passes into side control.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Canuck tries to bench press Spiteri off him but Spiteri keeps the position.

Canuck has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Canuck is not content to let Spiteri control the position.
Canuck is trying to get back to half guard.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dave Spiteri hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Canuck closes this distance looking for a takedown but Spiteri circles away.

Canuck decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Canuck seems to be looking for submissions.
Spiteri tries to roll over but Canuck keeps him under control.

Canuck wants to work for an arm triangle but Spiteri is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Canuck is looking for a kimura but Spiteri is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Canuck to get the leverage.

Canuck is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Spiteri is just riding it out for now. Canuck eventually gives up the hold.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Spiteri looks to land a combination. Canuck sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Canuck definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Spiteri's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Spiteri duly obliges.
Spiteri punishes Canuck's body with a nice straight punch.

Zyd Canuck seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Spiteri comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Canuck takes a shot to the body in his stride.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Spiteri feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Canucks jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Canuck tries for a takedown but Spiteri sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Spiteri lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Spiteri fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Spiteri thumps Canuck with a low kick.
Spiteri is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Canuck rather than just go for the knockout.
Spiteri scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Canuck gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Spiteri.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Spiteri's corner calls for a 1-2. Spiteri obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Canuck is rocked!
Canuck dives in for a single leg takedown but Spiteri sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Spiteri scores with a nice hook to the head.
Oh Canuck is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Spiteri has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Canuck after a bit of a struggle.
Canuck changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Spiteri fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Canuck seems to have got his legs back now.
Spiteri feints with a jab and clips Canuck right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Canuck is sent crashing into the canvas and Spiteri leaps in for the kill! Canuck tries to get to his feet but Spiteri is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Canuck is in need of a savior and steps in!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Dave Spiteri!
A relieved looking Dave Spiteri thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
