PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Franklyn Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chung Chung (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Franklyn Walker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Chung Chung!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Illya Tyunina and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chung misses with a takedown attempt

and Walker counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Walker really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Chung is trying to pull guard but Walker has him pressed against the cage.
Walker throws a knee to the head but misses.
Chung lands a left hand that snaps the head of Walker backwards.
Walker struggles to land a body shot inside as Chung controls his hands.
Chung is working for takedown but Walker is calmly controlling the position for now.
Franklyn Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chung Chung.

Chung breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Chung throws out a loose jab but Walker uses good head movement to avoid it.

Chung gets a clinch.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Walker is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Chung to keep the fight standing.

Walker has Chung pressed against the cage.

Walker is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Chung can't fight it off and eventually Walker manages to take the fight to the floor. Chung looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Walker is standing up over Chung. Chung looks to escape but Walker dives into side control.
Chung is looking for a sweep.
Walker misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Chung is trying to escape the position but Walker is controlling the position.

Walker tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.

Walker stands up and beckons Chung to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Chung tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Walker smiles and moves away.

Chung gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Chung is trying to pull guard but Walker turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Walker is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Chung gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Walker tries to pull guard but Chung won't allow it.
Walker stalls.

Walker tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Chung's elbow.
Chung is looking for a takedown.

Chung misses with a punch to the body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Walker for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chung shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Walker but Walker pushes him off and we're back to square one.

The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Franklyn Walker.

and Walker counters with a flying knee. Nice.
Franklyn Walker has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chung Chung.

Chung has managed to clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by Walker as Chung tries to tie him up.
Chung prevents the takedown attempt.
Chung is looking to take this one to the mat.
Chung tries to break the clinch but Walker is controlling the position.
Chung stalls.

Chung jumps guard but Walker stands there with Chung around his waist. Chung gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Walker is looking to break free of the clinch but Chung has double underhooks.
Walker tries to score a body lock takedown but Chung shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Chung has Walker pushed against the cage.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Chung jumps guard but Walker stands there with Chung around his waist. Chung gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Chung pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Walker shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Walker was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Chung is trying to escape the position but Walker is controlling the position.
Walker has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Walker seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Chung for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Franklyn Walker just wasn't active enough.
Walker avoids the head kick by Chung.
Chung fails with a takedown attempt.
Chung shoots in looking for a takedown. Walker tries to sprawl out of it but Chung keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Walker manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Chung is breathing heavily.
Chung tries for a takedown but Walker sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Franklyn Walker will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

Walker is pushing Chung up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Chung jumps guard but Walker turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Chung is trying to maintain a safe position but Walker gets an underhook and turns Chung into the cage.
Walker is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Chung wants to break the clinch but can't.

Chung tries to stall but Walker uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Walker is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Franklyn Walker has scored more points in the clinch so far.

Chung wants a takedown.
Walker tries to pull guard but Chung holds him up against the cage and eventually Walker drops back down to his feet.
Chung blocks an elbow strike.
Walker's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Walker is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Franklyn Walker.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Walker, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
