Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jarkko Rautavaara!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Kayaki Chonin!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Sergei Dronov and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rautavaara fails with a takedown attempt.
Rautavaara swats away the attempt to clinch by Chonin.
Chonin fails with the takedown
and Rautavaara counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Rautavaara rushes Chonin and presses him up against the ropes.
Chonin tries to break the clinch but Rautavaara is controlling the position.
Chonin wants to break free but Rautavaara has control.

and Rautavaara counters with a single leg into guard. Chonin didn't expect that.

Chonin pulls Rautavaara in close to prevent any damage.
Rautavaara pushes down on Chonin's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Rautavaara is keen to just control but Chonin is a slippery customer.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Rautavaara is looking to advance position but Chonin won't allow it.

Rautavaara drops back, looking for a kneebar! Chonin looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Chonin looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Chonin!
Rautavaara is looking to reverse the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Chonin tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Rautavaara prevents Chonin from moving into mount.
Chonin wants to control but Rautavaara is keeping him busy.

You can see the frustration on Rautavaara's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rautavaara is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Rautavaara won't allow Chonin to pass to mount.

Rautavaara is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rautavaara is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Rautavaara stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chonin swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chonin controls Rautavaara momentarily but Rautavaara frees himself.

Chonin wants to break the clinch but can't.

Chonin manages to break the clinch.
Rautavaara is looking to score with low kicks.
Chonin connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Chonin misses with a takedown
and Rautavaara counters with a good low kick that Chonin was not able to check.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Rautavaara tries to close the distance and clinch but Chonin swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Chonin throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Rautavaara on the side of the head.

and Rautavaara counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Chonin's guard now.

Rautavaara is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Rautavaara has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Chonin is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rautavaara is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Chonin is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rautavaara can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Well Rautavaara has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
