PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Casey Brady (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Casey Brady!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, James Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Fedor Mirinova and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mercer swats away the attempt to clinch by Brady.
Brady misses with a low kick.

Mercer gets a clinch.
Brady is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Mercer prevents the takedown attempt.
Mercer holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Brady has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Mercer avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Mercer lands a takedown into guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Brady trying to control the position.
Mercer stays in close to Brady's body and controls the position.

Mercer thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Brady trying to control the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mercer wants to pass the guard but Brady is keeping the position.
Brady looking to hit a scissor sweep but Mercer is one step ahead there.

Mercer gets to his feet - Brady follows without any prompting.

Mercer gets a takedown into half guard.
Mercer slips a nice elbow through Brady's hands, connecting with Brady's forehead.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Mercer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Brady doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Mercer.
Mercer tries to stand but can't do so whilst Brady controls his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Brady is looking for a sweep. Mercer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brady wants to control but Mercer is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Mercer trying to control the pace.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mercer is trying to control the action in half guard but Brady is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Brady manages to get to full guard.
Mercer wants to control from the top but Brady keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

James Mercer has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Mercer closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mercer lands in his opponent's guard.
Mercer tries to free his leg and advance position but Brady is retaining full guard.
Mercer wants to stand but Brady is controlling his posture from full guard.
Brady is trying to control the position but Mercer postures up.
Mercer is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Brady is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Mercer moves into the clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Brady drags the fight down to the ground.
Mercer postures up in Brady's guard and throws a big left but Brady blocks it.

Mercer decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Mercer darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mercer controlling the action here.
Brady controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mercer wants to lay and pray for a moment but Brady keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

James Mercer dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Brady blocks the body kick.
Brady fails with an attempt to clinch.

Mercer pushes Brady up against the cage in a clinch.
Brady has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Mercer after a bit of a struggle.

Mercer jumps guard and drags Brady to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Mercer is controlling Brady's posture.

Mercer pushes a forearm under Brady's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Brady is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). James Mercer!
