Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Cain Velasquez!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Velasquez was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Velasquez controlling the position.
Velasquez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mcfarland keeps working.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Velasquez is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Mcfarland knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Mcfarland is trying to control Velasquez's posture but Velasquez avoids it.
Mcfarland is looking to reverse the position.

Velasquez is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Mcfarland is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mcfarland tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Velasquez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mcfarland. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Mcfarland not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mcfarland can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Velasquez controls the pace.
Mcfarland could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Cain Velasquez wasn't active enough on the ground.
Velasquez throws a series of punches but Mcfarland moves out of range.
Velasquez goes for a high kick. It partially lands.


It looks like Mose Mcfarland has been cut.

Mcfarland fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Velasquez sprawls well initially but Mcfarland persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Velasquez is looking to improve his position.

Velasquez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Mcfarland pulls his head out easily.
Velasquez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Mcfarland is looking for a kimura here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Mcfarland tries to score a power double leg takedown but Velasquez sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mcfarland somewhat.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Velasquez. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Mcfarland dives in for a single leg takedown but Velasquez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Velasquez goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Oooooh!!! Velasquez has knocked Mcfarland down with a huge combo! Velasquez steps away and waves a wobbly Mcfarland back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Velasquez feints and as Mcfarland raises his hands in defense, Velasquez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Velasquez is pushing down on Mcfarland's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mcfarland is fighting to maintain full guard but Velasquez has managed to sneak the leg through.
Velasquez wants to stand up but Mcfarland is controlling the position.
Mcfarland is looking for a sweep. Velasquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Mcfarland is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Velasquez scores with a couple of nice shots.

Mcfarland is pressing down on Velasquez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Mcfarland bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velasquez's guard.

Velasquez looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Mcfarland passes into half guard.

Mcfarland wants to work for an arm triangle but Velasquez is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cain Velasquez showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Velasquez slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.

Velasquez is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mcfarland has escaped the position, nice work there.
Oh Mcfarland is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Velasquez happy to just control the position for now.

Velasquez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Velasquez wants to control from the top but Mcfarland keeps moving.
Velasquez is looking to advance position but Mcfarland has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!

Mcfarland goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Velasquez turns into him and now he's in Mcfarland's guard.
Velasquez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Mcfarland swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Cain Velasquez has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Velasquez lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Cain Velasquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Mcfarland gets tackled into the cage by Velasquez. Velasquez maintains the clinch.

Velasquez tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Mcfarland's elbow.

Velasquez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Velasquez scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Velasquez pushes Mcfarland up against the cage in a clinch.

Velasquez jumps into guard, dragging Mcfarland to the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Velasquez is looking for a triangle here but Mcfarland uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Mcfarland has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Cain Velasquez comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Velasquez winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
