PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bee Jay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hideki Soto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Soto has chosen Samurai as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Bee Jay!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hideki Soto!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Shigeki Fujiwara and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jay misses with a few strikes there.
Soto shoots in for a double leg but Jay sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Jay throws a low kick but Soto avoids it.
Jay avoids the head kick by Soto.
Soto throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Soto needs to keep his hands up - Jay had a free shot at his head there.

Jay forces Soto back against the ropes and clinches.
Soto wants a takedown.

Jay has hold of one of Soto's legs. Soto is fighting the takedown attempt but Jay gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Jay is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Soto looking to control.
Jay trying to control but Soto is working from the bottom.
Soto is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jay trying to control the position from guard on top but Soto is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
A jab lands there for Jay.

Jay rushes Soto and presses him up against the ropes.

Jay breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Soto wants to clinch up but Jay keeps it at a distance.
Soto fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A chopping leg kick lands by Jay.
An inside leg kick from Soto misses.

Jay shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Soto's guard.
Soto looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jay is one step ahead there.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Jay slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jay working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jay trying to control the position but Soto is working away.
Jay tries to score with some ground and pound. Soto controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jay sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Soto is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Jay wants to control but Soto is keeping him busy.
Jay has control of an arm but Soto manages to advance to Jay's back!

Soto is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Jay knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Jay for a finish.

Jay is trying to get back to his feet. He's worked up on to his knees and now he's on his feet with his head on the canvas, trying to shake Soto off. It looks like it's working - Soto slides off, much to his dismay, and we're back to standing! Jay displaying calm under pressure there.
Soto tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Jay defends well and Soto ends up having to push Jay into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Bee Jay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hideki Soto.

Jay lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Jay wants to lay and pray for a moment but Soto keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jay is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Soto!
Soto looks winded!
Jay unloads with some shots from mount but Soto bucks and avoids them well.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jay lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Soto hang on?
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bee Jay dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Jay attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Soto will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Soto shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Jay defends it nicely.
Jay lands a really nice looking cross but Soto seems unphased.
Jay scores with a nice head shot.

Jay closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the ropes.
A knee to the head by Jay.
Soto changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Jay fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Bee Jay has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Hideki Soto.

Jay drives through with a takedown into Soto's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Soto keeping moving, preventing Jay from controlling successfully.
Jay is really struggling to control Soto but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Jay is fighting to break Soto's control of his arms but Soto is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Soto is looking to sweep but instead, Jay has passed into half guard.

Jay is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Soto is just riding it out for now. Jay eventually gives up the hold.
Jay wants to free his trapped foot but Soto is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jay in particular looking to stall.
Jay trying to control the action but Soto is working from the bottom.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Jay working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Soto's thigh. Soto counters though and makes it back to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Soto can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Jay controls the pace.
Bee Jay overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Jay works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Soto is trying to control but can't.
Jay tries to pass the half guard into mount. Soto knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Soto trying to hold on to Jay's head to control him but Jay postures up.
Jay not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Soto trying to control here.

Jay is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Soto doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Jay.

Jay is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jay seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Soto does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bee Jay dominated that second round.
That's time! Jay's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Jay moves into the clinch successfully.
Soto is working for takedown but Jay is calmly controlling the position for now.
Jay is defending well against a takedown attempt.

Jay is trying to trip Soto. He has hold of a leg but Soto is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Jay persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Jay controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Jay works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Jay uses his free foot to push down on Soto's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Soto.

Jay punching from mount but Soto doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Jay content just to control the position here.
Soto really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Soto has left one of his arms exposed and Jay doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Soto screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Bee Jay!
Bee Jay decided to hype himself up post fight. It was going well but he went on about it a bit too long and the crowd turned on him a little.
