PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between DeAngelo Suggs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexandre Nieto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nieto comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Bullet the Blue Sky kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, DeAngelo Suggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 10 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Alexandre Nieto!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Suggs lands a really nice looking cross but Nieto seems unphased.


It looks like Alexandre Nieto has been cut.
Suggs swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Nieto blocks a leg kick.
Nieto shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Suggs defends it nicely.
Nieto lands with an uppercut that bounces Suggs off the cage and back into range.
Suggs tries to work over Nieto's front leg with a kick but Nieto checks it.
Suggs connects with a solid leg kick.
Nieto misses with a straight left.
Nieto bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Suggs's head backwards.

Suggs thuds his right hand into Nieto's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

That was a close round but I would say that DeAngelo Suggs will probably get the nod.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Suggs is not content to let Nieto control the position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Nieto wants to take a breather but Suggs manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Nieto.

Nieto fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Suggs looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Suggs ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Nieto fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Suggs manages to avoid it.
Nieto fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Suggs has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Suggs misses with a hook. Nieto ducked under it nicely.

Nieto scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Suggs doesn't seem bothered though.
Suggs connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.

Suggs avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Nieto throws the kick towards the body but Suggs avoids it.

and Suggs counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Nieto feints and as Suggs raises his hands in defense, Nieto changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Nieto wants to control from the top but Suggs keeps moving.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Nieto slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Suggs wants to hit a switch here but Nieto passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Suggs there!
Suggs tries to reverse the position but Nieto maintains control.

Alexandre Nieto comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nieto has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
