PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joe Komodo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Grigori Rasputin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rasputin has chosen Symphony of Destruction as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Komodo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Grigori Rasputin!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Phil Schofield and Donald Grub.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Komodo is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rasputin.
We've been told by Komodo's head coaches at Valhalla:NY GYM that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Rasputin will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Komodo closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Rasputin throws a head kick but Komodo moves out of range.

and Rasputin counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Komodo!
This has been an exciting period of action!
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rasputin is trying to ground and pound but Komodo uses the momentary lack of control by Rasputin to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Komodo regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Rasputin.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Grigori Rasputin hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

It looks like Joe Komodo has been cut.
Rasputin's coach down at The Exiled BJJ and Wrestling was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Rasputin's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.

Komodo parries the strikes from Rasputin easily there. Rasputin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Komodo to escape.
Rasputin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Grigori Rasputin comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rasputin has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
