PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Juan Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Norton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Scott Norton was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Juan Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Scott Norton!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Velasquez.
Norton has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Velasquez throws a leg kick but Norton sees it coming and moves out of range.
Norton takes one on the button.
Velasquez looks for the body kick but Norton saw that one coming.
Velasquez scores with a push kick.
Norton moves out of range of the body kick.
Norton lands a slapping body shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Velasquez looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Velasquez throws a combination. Norton tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Juan Velasquez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velasquez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Norton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Velasquez.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Velasquez scores with a shot to the body.
Velasquez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Norton dips to his left and cracks Velasquez with an uppercut!


It looks like Juan Velasquez has been cut.
Velasquez fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Norton has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Norton checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Velasquez tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Velasquez scores with a push kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Norton throws a right hand that misses
and Velasquez makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Velasquez uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Norton.
Velasquez feints and then cracks Norton's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Norton down.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Velasquez throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Velasquez lands a head kick!


It looks like Scott Norton has been cut.
A chopping leg kick lands by Velasquez.
Norton swings widly with a right hand
and Velasquez connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Velasquez throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Velasquez looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Norton takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Norton avoids the head kick by Velasquez.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Norton on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Velasquez, right into the meat.
A left lands for Velasquez.
Norton chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Velasquez can pounce on him.
Velasquez lands a nice leg kick that just misses Norton's sensitive parts.
Norton looks winded!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Velasquez lands a big right hand that sends Norton crashing to the mat! Velasquez stays standing though and waves Norton back to his feet!


Norton is rocked!
Norton tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Velasquez cracks the inside of Norton's front leg.
Norton on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Velasquez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Norton takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Velasquez cracks Norton on the jaw with a powerful right hand and Norton falls backwards against the cage. Velasquez follows up with more strikes that drop Norton to his knees. Velasquez keeps the pressure on and the referee jumps in to save Norton! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:15 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Juan Velasquez!
A relieved looking Juan Velasquez thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
