PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Yuki Tihiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nico Ruusperkki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Tihiro might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Jyo. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Yuki Tihiro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nico Ruusperkki!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Hugh Johnson and Chris Dean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Tihiro feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Tihiro slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Ruusperkki wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Tihiro manages to pass to side control.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruusperkki is looking to improve his position.
Tihiro is taking a breather. Ruusperkki says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tihiro is looking to advance position but Ruusperkki won't allow it.

Tihiro takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Tihiro passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Ruusperkki!

Tihiro's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Tihiro seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ruusperkki for as long as he can get away with.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ruusperkki is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Tihiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Tihiro is stinking the place up with his stalling.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Ruusperkki can't escape the position.
Tihiro takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tihiro shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ruusperkki manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Tihiro controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Tihiro is pushing down on Ruusperkki's leg trying to pass to half guard. Ruusperkki is fighting to maintain full guard but Tihiro has managed to sneak the leg through.

Ruusperkki is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ruusperkki misses with a double jab.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Tihiro.
Ruusperkki wants to get back to his feet but Tihiro drags him back down.
Tihiro is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Ruusperkki will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Tihiro advances nicely into full mount.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ruusperkki can do anything to dispel that myth.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Ruusperkki can't escape the position.
Tihiro tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Ruusperkki is trying to escape the mount.
Ruusperkki is breathing heavily.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Ruusperkki throws out a loose jab but Tihiro uses good head movement to avoid it.

Tihiro closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Ruusperkki did well to prevent Tihiro getting side control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ruusperkki scores with a one two! Tihiro had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Ruusperkki throws a nice looking combination but Tihiro bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Horrible takedown attempt by Tihiro or perhaps it was just good defense by Ruusperkki, which made it look bad.
Ruusperkki lands an overhand right.
Ruusperkki's corner calls for a 1-2. Ruusperkki obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Ruusperkki cracks Tihiro with a good jab.
Ruusperkki attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Tihiro is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ruusperkki can do to turn this around?

Tihiro closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ruusperkki circles away.
Ruusperkki tries for a takedown but Tihiro sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Ruusperkki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Tihiro fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ruusperkki sprawls well initially but Tihiro persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ruusperkki is in trouble now - Tihiro has advanced to mount!
Yuki Tihiro overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nico Ruusperkki has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yuki Tihiro is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tihiro, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
