PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lay Pray (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Staph Aureus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Pray's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Don't Fear the Reaper- Blue Oyster Cult. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 34 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lay Pray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Staph Aureus!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Wesley Smith and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aureus defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Pray.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Pray is defended easily by Aureus.
Aureus tries to clinch but Pray moves out of range.
A head kick misses from Aureus.
Aureus works the jab nicely.
Pray tries for a takedown but Aureus circles away easily

and Aureus counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Pray!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lay Pray. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pray tries to buck Aureus off but Aureus is having none of it.

Pray explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Aureus tries to bench press Pray off him but Pray keeps the position.

Pray seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Aureus for as long as he can get away with.

Pray advances nicely into full mount.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Lay Pray.
Aureus stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Aureus wants it to stay on the feet.
Pray misses with a takedown attempt
and Aureus makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Pray closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Pray lands in his opponent's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Aureus thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

Pray stays in close to Aureus's body and controls the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Aureus looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Pray passes into half guard.
Pray wants to take a breather but Aureus is having none of it.
Aureus tries to get to full guard but Pray has control of the leg.

Pray's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Pray is keen to just control but Aureus is a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Lay Pray wasn't doing enough on the ground.

and Aureus counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pray keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Pray wants to control but Aureus is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Pray moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Aureus postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lay Pray dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

and Aureus decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Pray's guard.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Aureus's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Aureus stops Pray from standing up.
Aureus throws a big right hand that misses.
Aureus working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pray's head.

Pray has his feet on Aureus's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Aureus gets underhooks to prevent Pray's takedown attempt.
Pray has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Aureus avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lay Pray. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Aureus tries to land knees in the clinch but Pray avoids the damage to the body.

Pray fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Nice body punch from Aureus.
Aureus is leaning against Pray and scores with a nice uppercut to the body.
Aureus misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Aureus lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Aureus unloads a knee to the mid-section.

Aureus tries to work over Pray's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Still in the clinch, Aureus scores with a nice short uppercut.
Aureus lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Aureus scores a nice knee to the body.
Pray changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Aureus fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Aureus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Pray swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Pray is looking to take this one to the mat.

Pray tries to pull guard but Aureus holds him up against the cage and eventually Pray drops back down to his feet.

Aureus tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Pray's elbow.
Pray wants a takedown but no success here.
A nice right hand lands inside from Aureus.
Staph Aureus seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

Aureus lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Pray or not.
Aureus misses with a knee strike.

Aureus can't find room to land a body shot as Pray controls the action.
A nice right hand lands inside from Aureus.

Aureus has the Thai plumb, controlling the head nicely. He loads up with a big knee to the head and Pray goes down! Aureus pounces into side control - this one could be over soon!


It looks like Lay Pray has been cut.
Pray is trying to buck Aureus off.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Aureus in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Pray looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Aureus turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Staph Aureus!
