PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Vincent Oketch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darwin Dorsey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Darwin Dorsey told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vincent Oketch!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darwin Dorsey!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Ben Watson and Darius Henderson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oketch looks to land a right hand but Dorsey moved out of range.
Oketch shoots in but no luck this time.
Dorsey fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Oketch is out of range.
Dorsey thows a left - swing and a miss!

Dorsey connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Oketch throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Dorsey lands a nice looking kick to the body. Oketch takes a step back to recover.
Dorsey lands with a kick to the ribs.

Oketch looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Dorsey lands with a thumping leg kick.
Dorsey misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Dorsey fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Oketch on the side of the head.

Dorsey lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Oketch backs up against the cage.

Oketch shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Dorsey manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Dorsey can do anything to dispel that myth.

Oketch is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Oketch is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Dorsey!

Oketch is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Dorsey is defending well though. Oketch let's go of the attempt for now.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vincent Oketch will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Dorsey keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
A big left from Oketch misses.
Dorsey tries a head kick but it misses.
Darwin Dorsey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Oketch bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Dorsey's head backwards.
Dorsey throws a push kick but Oketch slaps the foot to one side.
Oketch walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Oketch misses with a looping right.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Dorsey lands with a straight right. Oketch didn't see that one coming.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Oketch checks the leg kick nicely there.
Dorsey is looking to slow Oketch down with leg kicks.
Dorsey tries to move into range but Oketch moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Dorsey loads up on a big right hand but Oketch slips the punch.

Dorsey gets caught napping as Oketch dives in and scores a takedown. Dorsey manages to retain guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Oketch thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Dorsey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dorsey really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Oketch. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Oketch is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Oketch is pushing down on Dorsey's leg trying to pass to half guard. Dorsey is fighting to maintain full guard but Oketch has managed to sneak the leg through.

Oketch is trying for a kimura here. Dorsey looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Oketch wins by kimura!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:32 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Vincent Oketch!

After winning the bout, Vincent Oketch thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
