PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Chip Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Clark Kent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diaz kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Broken Sunday. Chip Diaz could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Clark Kent's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chip Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Clark Kent!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Kent napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Kent gets back to half guard.
Diaz is pressing down on Kent's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kent is holding on for now.

Diaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Kent doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Diaz.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kent can do anything to dispel that myth.
Kent keeping control of the position.

Diaz seems to be working for a kimura but Kent defends the submission attempt.
Diaz thows a huge punch but Kent dodges it nicely.

Diaz is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Kent has managed to free his arm - good work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kent wants to get back to full guard.

Diaz is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kent is looking to improve his position.
Diaz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Diaz trying to control the action but Kent is working from the bottom.
Kent should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Diaz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Kent defends it well.
Kent is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kent manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Diaz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kent is pulling down on Diaz's head. It's preventing any offense from Diaz, at least for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Chip Diaz will probably get the nod.

Kent shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Diaz manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Kent must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kent slips nicely into half guard.
We've been informed that Kent has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kent content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Diaz looking for submissions off his back.
Kent with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Clark Kent hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Diaz pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Kent back to the cage. Diaz follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Diaz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Kent forces his way into half guard.

Kent is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Kent seems to be looking for submissions.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kent tries to pass the half guard into mount. Diaz knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Kent prevents Diaz from improving his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kent wants to free his trapped foot but Diaz is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Kent is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kent perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Kent pulls his head out easily.
Kent looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Diaz is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clark Kent showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Kent feints and as Diaz raises his hands in defense, Kent changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Kent's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Kent stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Kent is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Clark Kent has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Diaz misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Kent stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Kent wants it to stay on the feet.

Kent shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Kent trying to pass the guard but Diaz defending well.

Kent is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Diaz is just riding it out for now. Kent eventually gives up the hold.

Well, if Kent is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
