PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Will Sabu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jusuf Lakupekka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Will Sabu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jusuf Lakupekka!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Roosa Järviläinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lakupekka slaps away a takedown attempt from Sabu, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Lakupekka throws a right hand that Sabu ducks under and follows up with a left that Sabu also avoids with ease.
Lakupekka tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Sabu was well out of range. Poor timing from Lakupekka.
Will Sabu seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lakupekka misses with a few strikes there.
Lakupekka feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Sabus jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Lakupekka closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Sabu fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Sabu fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Sabu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Sabu shoots in for a double leg but Lakupekka sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Lakupekka lands a nice looking body shot.

Sabu darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Sabu stops Lakupekka from getting back to his feet.

Lakupekka is looking to get back to is feet but Sabu passes into side control.
Lakupekka is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lakupekka throws Sabu to one side and escapes!
Sabu shoots in for a takedown but Lakupekka shows good takedown defense.
Sabu will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Sabu slips a jab and a cross from Lakupekka.
Lakupekka will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Lakupekka keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Lakupekka misses with a few strikes there.
Lakupekka scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Lakupekka connects with a looping right hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Lakupekka's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Lakupekka duly obliges.
Lakupekka looks winded!
Lakupekka throws a body punch but Sabu moves out of range.
Lakupekka lands a slapping body shot.
Lakupekka defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Sabu.
No joy there for Lakupekka, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Lakupekka leaves Sabu with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Sabu misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sabu changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lakupekka tries to avoid it but Sabu manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lakupekka to the ground. Lakupekka escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Sabu has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Sabu could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Sabu fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lakupekka sprawls well initially but Sabu persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Lakupekka really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sabu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lakupekka tries to kick Sabu off but Sabu keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lakupekka pushes Sabu off but Sabu dives into side control.
Lakupekka wants to get back to his feet but Sabu drags him back down.

Sabu tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sabu has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lakupekka wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Sabu wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Lakupekka, who protects the arm well.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Lakupekka is trying to buck Sabu off.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jusuf Lakupekka dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Sabu looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Lakupekka is fending him off so far but Sabu persists. Nope, Lakupekka circles away and we're back to standing.
Sabu misses with a takedown attempt - Lakupekka sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lakupekka scores with a body shot.
Sabu fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Will Sabu. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sabu tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lakupekka sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Sabu somewhat.
Sabu takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Sabu shoots in but Lakupekka avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sabu has a takedown stuffed.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Lakupekka throws a series of punches but Sabu moves out of range.
Sabu throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lakupekka's waist but Lakupekka gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sabu off to one side.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Lakupekka throws a left that rocks Sabu and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Lakupekka dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Sabu regain composure!


Sabu is rocked!

Lakupekka decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Oh Sabu is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lakupekka lands with a precision combination! Left, right, uppercut and Sabu falls flat on his face, eyes wide open but he's out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Jusuf Lakupekka!
