PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tabby Cat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mahmud Pehlivan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tabby Cat is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tabby Cat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Mahmud Pehlivan!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pehlivan tries to clinch

and Cat counters by clinching up.

Cat gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Cat might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Cat gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Pehlivan throws a right and a left that Cat avoids nicely.
Sloppy strikes from Pehlivan. Those never looked like landing.
Pehlivan fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Pehlivan misses with a two punch combination.
Pehlivan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Cat counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Cat is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Pehlivan is just riding it out for now. Cat eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cat is figuring out what he wants to do next.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pehlivan scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Cat manages to mount him!
Cat has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pehlivan's face.

Cat jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Pehlivan is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Pehlivan and Cat has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee asks Cat politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Cat prefers to stall for the moment though.
Cat tries to advance to mount but Pehlivan denies him.
Pehlivan is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Cat is controlling him well.
Pehlivan prevents Cat from moving into mount.
Cat lands some shots froms side control.
Cat is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Pehlivan's shoulder. That is not cool.
Pehlivan is trying to get back to half guard.
Pehlivan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Pehlivan is letting Cat control him for a moment.
Pehlivan is looking for a sweep.
Pehlivan defending against the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pehlivan is looking to regain half guard here but Cat keeps moving and retains side control.
Cat postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The strikes coming from Cat are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Pehlivan prevents Cat from moving into mount.
Cat trying to control the action but Pehlivan is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Pehlivan struggling a bit here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tabby Cat dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Cat drives through and clinches with Pehlivan against the cage.

Cat's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Cat closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Cat decides to stand and escape the position.
Pehlivan is looking to clinch.
Pehlivan throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Cat takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Pehlivan slaps away a takedown attempt from Cat, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Pehlivan misses with a jab, cross combination.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Cat clinches up with Pehlivan and pushes him back against the cage.
Cat tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Cat tries a knee to the head but Pehlivan blocks it.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cat pulls guard successfully.
Pehlivan loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Cat is controlling Pehlivan's posture.
Pehlivan sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Cat looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Pehlivan working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Cat's head.
Cat knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Pehlivan on the ground.
Pehlivan landing with the ground and pound.

Pehlivan gets to his feet. Cat looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cat throws a right hand that Pehlivan ducks under and follows up with a left that Pehlivan also avoids with ease.
Tabby Cat is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cat shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pehlivan pinned against the cage. Pehlivan gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tabby Cat. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Pehlivan misses with a body shot.
Cat misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Pehlivan shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cat as he avoids it easily.
Pehlivan shoots for a takedown but Cat saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Pehlivan shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Cat eats them both and turns towards Pehlivan to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cat goes for a double leg but Pehlivan avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Pehlivan continues to drive forward.
Cat prevents Pehlivan from breaking the clinch.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pehlivan pulls guard.
Cat tries to free his leg and advance position but Pehlivan is retaining full guard.
Cat throws a big right hand that misses.

Pehlivan looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

Pehlivan has an active guard here but Cat has managed to pass into half guard.

Cat seems to be working for a kimura but Pehlivan defends the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Cat is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Pehlivan sees it coming and defends easily.
Cat stops Pehlivan from getting back to his feet.

Cat decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Pehlivan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cat moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Pehlivan throws a jab but it's blocked by Cat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Tabby Cat will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


Cat misses with a body shot.

Pehlivan darts in and clinches Cat up against the cage.
Cat tries to pull guard but Pehlivan won't allow it.
Pehlivan stops a takedown attempt from Cat.

Cat turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Cat trying to control the position but Pehlivan is working away.
Pehlivan pushes Cat away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Cat gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Cat wants to control but Pehlivan is keeping him busy.
Pehlivan wants to control but Cat postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Cat trying to control the action but Pehlivan is working from the bottom.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Pehlivan defending against the ground and pound.
Cat tries to move to full mount but Pehlivan actually manages to regain half guard.
Cat is thwarting Pehlivan's attempts to control the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cat frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Pehlivan tries to hold on but Cat postures up.
Cat can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Pehlivan is looking to escape.
Pehlivan slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Pehlivan manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Pehlivan takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Cat has managed to clinch.

Cat manages to break the clinch.
Pehlivan fails with a takedown attempt.

Cat darts in and clinches Pehlivan up against the cage.

Cat escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cat manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Pehlivan on his heels. He'll look to pass Pehlivan's guard now, I'm sure.
Tabby Cat overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cat tries to free his leg and advance position but Pehlivan is retaining full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Cat working some strikes from top position.
Cat looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Cat slips nicely into half guard.
Mahmud Pehlivan has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Tabby Cat is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tabby Cat showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cat, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
