PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tony Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kaneonuskatew Citlali (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Citlali is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Shadow of the Sun. On his way into the cage it seems that Tony Mendez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Tony Mendez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 48 - 28 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tony Mendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kaneonuskatew Citlali!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Dean Styles and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez misses with an uppercut.
Citlali cracks Mendez with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Citlali stuffs the takedown.
Mendez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Citlali tries to avoid it but Mendez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Citlali to the ground. Citlali escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Citlali cracks Mendez with a right hand to the side of the head.
Nice takedown defense from Citlali. No joy for Mendez on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tony Mendez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Mendez slips under a jab.
The fighters circling - Citlali throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Citlali connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Citlali throws the kick towards the body but Mendez avoids it.
Citlali misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Mendez takes a swing at Citlali's ribcage but misses.
Mendez fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Citlali manages to avoid it.

so Mendez counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Mendez is looking to take a break and control but Citlali is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Citlali is trying to control Mendez's posture but Mendez avoids it.
Mendez tries to advance to mount but Citlali denies him.
Mendez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Citlali keeps working.

Mendez working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Citlali takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendez wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Citlali, who protects the arm well.
Mendez tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.

Mendez in side control, throwing shots but Citlali defends.
Mendez sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Citlali is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
The ground and pound from Mendez seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Mendez wants to control but Citlali is keeping him busy.

You can see the frustration on Mendez's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Mendez throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Citlali swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mendez misses with a wild body shot.
Kaneonuskatew Citlali is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Citlali lands a glancing blow to the side of Mendez's head.
Mendez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

A decent looking cross lands there for Mendez.

Citlali fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Mendez looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Mendez dives in and grabs Citlali's left leg, looking for a takedown. Citlali pushes down on Mendez's head and hops out.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Citlali.
Citlali looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Citlali throws a low kick but Mendez moves out of range easily.
Citlali is looking to score with low kicks.
Mendez is looking to wear down Citlali with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Mendez fails with the takedown.

Mendez scores with a decent looking hook.
A nice inside leg kick there by Mendez. That's going to slow Citlali down.
Mendez goes for a double leg but Citlali avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Citlali continues to drive forward.
Citlali is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Mendez is defending well for now.

Kaneonuskatew Citlali showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Mendez's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Mendez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Citlali's guard.

Mendez stands up over Citlali, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Citlali is on top in guard.
