Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nicodemo Romero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Winston McCall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Romero's entrance music is Lords Of Salem . A fine choice. McCall has chosen Parkway Drive - Sleepwalker as his entrance music. Winston McCall told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nicodemo Romero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 1, fighting out of New York, Winston McCall!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McCall misses with a body shot.
McCall throws a head kick that misses.
Romero swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

and McCall counters with a shoot takedown. Romero fights it but they end up in guard.

McCall distracts Romero with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Romero is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

We've been hearing good reports from Romero's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Romero seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but McCall does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Nicodemo Romero will probably get the nod.

Romero has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from McCall finds it's way round the side to connect with Romero's head.

McCall uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Romero.

McCall stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and McCall wants it to stay on the feet.
Romero throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around McCall's waist but McCall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Romero off to one side.
Nicodemo Romero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

It looks like Nicodemo Romero has been cut.

McCall shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Romero manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
McCall is in close to Romero's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Romero looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

McCall wants to pass the guard but Romero is keeping the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Romero is on top in guard.

McCall might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Romero haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Romero got a little sloppy there for a moment and McCall has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Romero has managed to get both his arms back between McCall's legs - danger averted.

Romero seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McCall for as long as he can get away with.

Winston McCall showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Nicodemo Romero's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


McCall ducks right into an uppercut from Romero.
Romero cracks McCall with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Romero crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from McCall - the referee stops the clock and Romero gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says McCall. Romero manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

McCall feints and then cracks Romero's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Romero down.

Winston McCall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McCall has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
