The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kucera closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gullit circles away.

Ruud Gullit seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

My spies in Hilo Training Center inform me that Kucera has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gullit is looking to stand up but Kucera isn't so interested in that idea.

Kucera drops back looking for a leg! Gullit is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Gullit manages to kick Kucera off! Kucera jumps back into Gullit's guard.
Gullit has control of Kucera's left arm, preventing Kucera from doing any damage.

Kucera closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gullit circles away.
Gullit rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kucera moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gullit is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Kucera can do to turn this around?

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kucera tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Kucera has hold of Gullit's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Gullit tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Kucera cranks the arm and Gullit screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Gullit, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
