The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Baldo dives in for a single leg takedown but Smith sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Baldo has Smith pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Smith manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Baldo is trying to drag Smith to the mat but Smith just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
John Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jose Baldo.
Baldo goes for a takedown in the clinch but Smith prevents it.

Smith lands a hook that snaps the head of Baldo backwards.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Smith creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Smith lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Baldo to his knees! Smith keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
