PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Leland Palmer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogers comes to the ring accompanied by Shock by Fear Factory. Palmer has chosen Annihilator - Fun Palace as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 38 - 36 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Steve Rogers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Leland Palmer!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Palmer showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rogers.
Rogers shoots in for a takedown but Palmer shows good takedown defense.
Palmer lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Rogers slips under a jab.
Rogers throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

I was talking to Rogers's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Rogers has Palmer pressed against the ropes, preventing Palmer from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Palmer tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

A punch lands to the side of Rogers 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Palmer ducks right into an uppercut from Rogers.
Leland Palmer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Rogers throws a half hearted mid kick.
Palmer takes one on the chin but seems OK.

and Rogers cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Steve Rogers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Rogers takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.


It looks like Steve Rogers has been cut.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Rogers lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Palmer has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Palmer and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Rogers dives in and grabs Palmer's left leg, looking for a takedown. Palmer pushes down on Rogers's head and hops out.

Some bone on bone action there as Palmer checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Rogers lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Palmer backs up against the ropes.

Palmer scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Rogers takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Rogers fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Palmer manages to avoid it.

Rogers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Palmer sprawls well initially but Rogers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Palmer is not content to let Rogers control the position.
Palmer has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Palmer is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Rogers is trying to control. Palmer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Palmer is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rogers passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Palmer is looking for a sweep.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

That was a close round but I would say that Steve Rogers will probably get the nod.

Rogers is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Palmer can do to turn this around?
Rogers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Palmer's waist but Palmer gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Rogers off to one side.

Rogers is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Palmer tries to free his leg and advance position but Rogers is retaining full guard.

Palmer slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rogers.
Palmer dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Leland Palmer showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Leland Palmer seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Palmer lands a brutal uppercut that launches Rogers off his feet! Rogers tumbles to the floor, barely conscious - the referee jumps in to save him from a beating! Wow, what an ending!
