PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Darrel Hopper (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kendall Rison (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Darrel Hopper!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kendall Rison!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rison fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hopper sprawls well initially but Rison persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Rison really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hopper. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rison looking to sit in guard and control but Hopper gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Rison is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hopper defends well.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Rison changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Hopper looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Hopper has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rison lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Hopper down.
We've been informed that Rison has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
Hopper is looking for a sweep.

That was a close round but I would say that Darrel Hopper will probably get the nod.

Rison stalling away here and it's allowed Hopper to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

Hopper wants to stand but Rison is controlling the position.
Rison stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hopper swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hopper tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rison just stands there and leans against the cage.

Rison has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Hopper is trying to keep an underhook but Rison manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Rison is taking a breather. Hopper says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hopper has one foot on Rison's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Rison tries to free his leg and advance position but Hopper is retaining full guard.

Rison must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Rison drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Hopper manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rison has Hopper in his guard.

Hopper drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hopper jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Rison feints and as Hopper raises his hands in defense, Rison changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hopper is on top in guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Rison can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rison postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Hopper manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Hopper has control of Rison's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rison regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Hopper is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Rison has managed to escape the submission attempt.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rison tries to hold on but Hopper pushes him away.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Darrel Hopper showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Hopper has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
