Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Cook!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Best blocks a head kick by Cook.

Best dives in and scores a takedown into Cook's guard.
Best stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cook swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cook holds on and takes a little breather.
Cook looking to control.
Best wants to control from the top but Cook keeps moving.

Cook escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Best gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Best trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Best sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Cook's guard.

Cook is controlling Best's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Cook is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Best controlling the action here.

Best is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Cook defends it well.

Best wants to work for an arm triangle but Cook is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Cook is not content to let Best control the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Best prevents Cook from improving his position.
Best is keen to just control but Cook is a slippery customer.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Best throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cook was covering up waiting for the punch and Best finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Cook is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Best wants to control from the top but Cook keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Best throws a big right hand that misses.

Cook is looking for a triangle here but Best uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Best wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cook keeps working.

Best thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cook can't do much from the bottom here.
Best works to advance to full mount. Cook defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Cook is squirming around, avoiding Best's attempts to control the action.

Best is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Cook to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Cook shrugs it off.
Best wants to control the pace but Cook is squirming around nicely.

Best is working for a guillotine from mount but Cook frees his head quite easily.
Cook is looking to improve his position but Best isn't that keen on the idea.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Best can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cook is looking to escape.
Cook tries to lock up and control but Best gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Best content just to control the position here.
Cook is desperately trying to improve his position but Best has a good base and remains in mount.
Cook is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Dermy Best overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cook tries to reverse the position but Best maintains control.

It looks like John Cook has been cut.
We've been told by Best's head coaches at Extreme MMA (7 Elites $250/week) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Cook takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Cook tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Best manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Best looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Best is working for a kimura from half guard. He's really concentrating on the hold and it's allowed Cook to slip a leg under and get back to full guard.
Cook being controlled here, momentarily.
Best passes into half guard.
Best prevents Cook from improving his position.

Cook slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Cook is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Best wants to pass the guard but Cook is keeping the position.

Cook working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Best doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Best manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Best is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Best thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Cook has his feet on Best's thighs here. He's pushed Best off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Best screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
