Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!

With a record of 19 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andy Berdich!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Helio Perrera!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Berdich closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Perrera quickly recovers to half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Berdich connects with a nice short shot to Perrera's temple.

Perrera is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Berdich pulls his head out easily.

Berdich drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Perrera manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Berdich has Perrera in his guard.

Berdich working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Perrera doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Perrera manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Berdich has his foot on Perrera's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Perrera works his way back into a safe position though.

Perrera drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Perrera jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Berdich escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Perrera gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Perrera pushes down on Berdich's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Berdich has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Perrera is working away from the top position though.
Perrera has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

That was a close round but I would say that Andy Berdich will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Berdich moves away from the strike by Perrera.
Perrera finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Berdich goes for a double leg but Perrera avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Perrera continues to drive forward.
Perrera lands a body punch in the clinch.
Berdich jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Perrera walks away with a smile on his face. Berdich gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Perrera stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Perrera wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Andy Berdich. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Oh but Perrera is tightening it up a little... Berdich has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Berdich reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Berdich taps out! Nice BJJ there by Perrera!
