PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Michel Rodalgo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Zelenka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodalgo comes to the cage accompanied by Ace of Spades - By Motorhead. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Michel Rodalgo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 6 - 2, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jan Zelenka!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zelenka feints a jab promting Rodalgo to slip. Zelenka then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Rodalgo slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Zelenka lands with a nice body punch.
Rodalgo chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Zelenka can pounce on him.
Zelenka throws a leg kick but Rodalgo sees it coming and moves out of range.
Zelenka swings widly with a right hand

and Rodalgo counters with a takedown into side control.
Rodalgo wants to control but Zelenka is keeping him busy.

Rodalgo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zelenka is looking to regain half guard here but Rodalgo keeps moving and retains side control.
Zelenka taking a bit of punishment here - Rodalgo scoring with strikes.

Zelenka tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Rodalgo with the ground and pound but Zelenka regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Zelenka wants to improve his position but Rodalgo is controlling well.
Rodalgo is keen to just control but Zelenka is a slippery customer.
Rodalgo throws a strike but Zelenka avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Rodalgo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Zelenka is keeping the position for now.
Rodalgo in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Rodalgo trying to control the position from guard on top but Zelenka is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Zelenka tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rodalgo trying to control but Zelenka is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zelenka bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rodalgo's guard.

Rodalgo seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Zelenka is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Rodalgo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Zelenka looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Rodalgo is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zelenka is aware though and is defending well.
Rodalgo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Zelenka wants to control from the top but Rodalgo keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Zelenka postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Zelenka's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Rodalgo controls Zelenka momentarily but Zelenka frees himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Rodalgo wants to control but Zelenka passes easily into half guard.
Zelenka not doing much here.
Rodalgo is staying active underneath Zelenka, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rodalgo trying to control but Zelenka postures up.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
The fighters circle momentarily. Rodalgo darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Jan Zelenka will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Zelenka tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nice shot lands for Zelenka.
Zelenka is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Zelenka lands a nice shot to the body.
Rodalgo swings for the body but Zelenka moves out of range.
Rodalgo looks to throw the jab but Zelenka is out of range.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rodalgo. Zelenka does a little dance to reset his feet.
Zelenka lands with a thumping leg kick.
Zelenka moves out of range of the strikes.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rodalgo ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Zelenka's coach down at The Charles Martel School of Greatness was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Zelenka's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Zelenka thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Rodalgo if he has to take too many more of those.
Zelenka has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Zelenka lands with a shot to the body.
A decent looking cross lands there for Zelenka.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rodalgo gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Zelenka.
Jan Zelenka seems to be getting the better of the standup.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zelenka throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Rodalgo misses with a looping left.
Rodalgo blocks the body kick.
Rodalgo throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Rodalgo takes one to the side of the head.
Zelenka closes the distance and lands a one-two.


Rodalgo is rocked!
Zelenka pounces like a tiger and cracks Rodalgo with a vicious hook! Rodalgo is down but not out! Zelenka follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:37 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Jan Zelenka!
As Jan Zelenka got his breath back, he grabbed the microphone and managed to blurt out the following: Gold is so shiny'.
The defeated Michel Rodalgo had this to say: 'Does my hair still look good?'.
