Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Boyd McGuire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Burley Haines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). McGuire comes to the cage accompanied by Five Finger Death Punch - The Way Of The Fist. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Boyd McGuire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Burley Haines!
The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Alyssa Summers and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haines on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
We've been hearing reports that McGuire has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Haines changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. McGuire tries to avoid it but Haines manages to keep hold of a leg and drag McGuire to the ground. McGuire escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
McGuire throws a shot from downtown. Haines moves away and avoids it.

Haines looking to score a takedown here. McGuire is defending well but Haines drives through and ends up in McGuire's guard.

Haines is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
McGuire not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

McGuire wants to get back to full guard.
Haines stalling away here and it's allowed McGuire to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Haines working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Haines frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Haines lands a heavy elbow.
McGuire is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Haines tries to control but McGuire wriggling away.
Haines has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
McGuire sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Haines is trying to control. McGuire wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

BOOM! Haines connects with a massive shot to the dome!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Haines looking to control but McGuire is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


The fight stays on the outside here - Haines looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Haines has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McGuire has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Haines can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Haines goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now McGuire is on top in guard.

Haines had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. McGuire defends it easily.
McGuire advances to half guard.

McGuire trying to mount his opponent but Haines defends it.
Still in half guard, McGuire seems content to control.

Haines takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

McGuire displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Haines throws out the jab.
McGuire tries to clinch up but Haines circles away and keeps his distance.
McGuire throws a half hearted mid kick.
A nice leg kick lands there from McGuire.
Sloppy strikes from McGuire. Those never looked like landing.
McGuire throws a looping overhand right but Haines ducks down to avoid it.

McGuire drives through and clinches with Haines against the cage.
Haines wants to get back to striking at distance but McGuire won't allow it.
Haines fails to pull guard.
Boyd McGuire has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Burley Haines.

Haines breaks the clinch.
McGuire lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
McGuire feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Hainess jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Burley Haines is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Haines takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Haines throws a hook to the side of McGuire's head but McGuire sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
McGuire cracks Haines with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
McGuire scores with a body shot.
McGuire avoids the body shot from Haines.
McGuire misses with a head kick.
Haines tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
A telegraphed right hand from Haines misses the target.
McGuire fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Haines has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
McGuire takes a swing at Haines's ribcage but misses.
McGuire scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

McGuire throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
McGuire displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Haines.
McGuire connects with a leg kick. Haines looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
McGuire lands a nice looking body shot.
A big right from McGuire misses.
Haines ducks right into an uppercut from McGuire.
Haines throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
McGuire throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Haines takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

and Haines counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for McGuire!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

McGuire is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Haines's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
McGuire works his way to full guard. Good work.
