PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mickey O Neil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Harold Buck (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Mickey O Neil has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Mickey O Neil seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Harold Buck!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
O Neil misses with a hook.
O Neil throws a right hand that Buck ducks under and follows up with a left that Buck also avoids with ease.
Buck digs a good hook to O Neil's body.
Buck throws a lazy right hand but O Neil sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
O Neil throws a jab but it's blocked by Buck.
O Neil lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Buck backs up against the cage.
Buck throws a series of punches but O Neil moves out of range.
O Neil defending well as Buck loads up on a big left hand.
Buck avoids the body shot from O Neil.
O Neil stuns Buck with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
O Neil throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Buck takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.

Buck throws a strike aimed at the side of O Neil's head but O Neil avoids it well.

We've been hearing good reports from O Neil's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Buck will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Buck lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Harold Buck will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

and Buck decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in O Neil's guard.
Buck has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Buck fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. O Neil looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
O Neil looks to throw the jab but Buck is out of range.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts O Neil, as that shot connected.
Buck swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
O Neil throws a shot from downtown. Buck moves away and avoids it.
No joy there for O Neil, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

O Neil takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
O Neil moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Buck stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. O Neil swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Buck is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

I would just about give that final round to Harold Buck.
