Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jon Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Claudius Ghissi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Askren!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Claudius Ghissi!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, William Gold and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ghissi fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ghissi.
Ghissi misses with a double jab.
Askren jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Ghissi misses with a two punch combination.

Askren throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ghissi was covering up waiting for the punch and Askren finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Askren controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ghissi keeping moving, preventing Askren from controlling successfully.
Askren scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Ghissi can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Askren controls the pace.
Ghissi is trying to control the position but Askren postures up.
Ghissi lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ghissi drops back looking for a leg! Askren is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Askren manages to kick Ghissi off! Ghissi jumps back into Askren's guard.
Askren wants to sweep but no luck.
Askren is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Ghissi wants to control but Askren is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Askren controlling the action here.
Askren wants to take a breather but Ghissi is having none of it.

Askren scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Ghissi looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Ghissi trying to hold on to Askren's head to control him but Askren postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Askren tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ghissi knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Askren keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Askren is thwarting Ghissi's attempts to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ghissi on the wrong end of a nice hook.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Askren tries to clinch there but Ghissi circles away.

Askren closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Askren lands in his opponent's guard.
Askren tries to free his leg and advance position but Ghissi is retaining full guard.
Ghissi keeping moving, preventing Askren from controlling successfully.
Ghissi is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Askren stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ghissi swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Askren dominated that round.
That's time! Askren's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Askren shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Askren was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Askren postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Askren is looking to take a break and control but Ghissi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Ghissi is looking for a sweep.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Ghissi's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ghissi can't do much from the bottom here.

Askren passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Ghissi!
Ghissi is looking to get to half guard.

Askren wants to control the pace but Ghissi is squirming around nicely.
Askren lands a heavy elbow.
Askren is landing with some decent strikes but Ghissi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
