PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Henry Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rcrs Sarabjit (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones's entrance music is Raiders March. A fine choice. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Henry Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 17 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rcrs Sarabjit!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sarabjit dives in for a single leg takedown but Jones sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Sarabjit has Jones pushed against the cage.

Sarabjit manages to pull guard.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Jones working some strikes from top position.
Jones looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sarabjit, up you get!
Sarabjit tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sarabjit blocks a head kick by Jones.
Sarabjit should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Sarabjit fails with the takedown
and Jones counters with a series of strikes. Sarabjit will be more careful next time no doubt.
Sarabjit closes the distance and clinches up with Jones, looking for a takedown. Sarabjit pushes Jones against the cage but Jones circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Henry Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rcrs Sarabjit.
Jones lands an overhand right.
Jones's jab looks to have found its range, popping Sarabjit under the eye.
Jones scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Sarabjit fails with the takedown.

Sarabjit drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Sarabjit.
Sarabjit misses with a takedown attempt - Jones sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Sarabjit shoots in.
Jones is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Sarabjit takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.

Jones manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sarabjit on his heels. He'll look to pass Sarabjit's guard now, I'm sure.
Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones stands and throws Sarabjit's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Jones decides to stand back up.
Sarabjit tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Jones is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Jones throws a right hand that Sarabjit ducks under and follows up with a left that Sarabjit also avoids with ease.
Sarabjit looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well.
Jones swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jones misses with a head kick.
No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jones is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Sarabjit misses with the combination.
Sarabjit on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Jones swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Sarabjit counters with a three punch combo that has Jones backing up. Jones nods at Sarabjit to acknowledge the strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Sarabjit!
Jones has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
The referee asks Jones politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Jones prefers to stall for the moment though.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sarabjit gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Jones dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Jones's jab looks to have found its range, popping Sarabjit under the eye.
Sarabjit gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Henry Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sarabjit falls off balance throwing a combination

and Jones counters by clinching up.
Sarabjit is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Jones drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Sarabjit gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Sarabjit can't break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Jones is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sarabjit can do to turn this around?

Jones's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Further stalling from Jones.

Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Jones tries to keep at a distance but Sarabjit has taken the fight into the clinch.
Sarabjit stops a takedown attempt from Jones.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Henry Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Jones takes a knee right on the jaw!

Sarabjit is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Jones to keep the fight standing.

Jones controls from within his opponent's guard.
Jones chips away with some ground and pound.
Jones is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sarabjit is working an open guard so Jones takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - Sarabjit circles away.

Sarabjit avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sarabjit fails with the takedown

and Jones counters with a nice double leg into side control. Sarabjit won't be happy with that.

Jones stands up and beckons Sarabjit to his feet.
Sarabjit tries to clinch up but Jones circles away and keeps his distance.
Sarabjit shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
Jones throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sarabjit tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones moves in looking to clinch but Sarabjit pushes him off.

Jones scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Jones decides to take the fight back to the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Jones dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Jones cracks Sarabjit with a right hand to the side of the head.
Sarabjit tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Sarabjit walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.

Jones changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sarabjit looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Henry Jones overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Sarabjit trying to remain calm as Jones controls from the top position.
Jones scoring with punches and elbows.

Jones stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Jones fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Sarabjit is looking to clinch but Jones is avoiding it.

Sarabjit tries to sprawl but Jones drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Jones is stinking the place up with his stalling.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jones throwing shots but Sarabjit is blocking nicely.
Well, if Jones is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Jones working over Sarabjit with some ground and pound. Sarabjit looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Jones is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Sarabjit tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Jones paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sarabjit shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jones throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sarabjit.
Jones with a nice cross.
Sarabjit misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Sarabjit has eaten all the pies!
Jones lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Jones tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones connects with a single shot there.
Jones fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Sarabjit looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Sarabjit napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Jones decides to stand back up. Jones steps back and let's Sarabjit get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sarabjit drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Jones lands with a cross.
Sarabjit takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Jones throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Henry Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Jones scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Sarabjit doesn't seem bothered though.
Sarabjit takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Jones changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Jones tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sarabjit manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Jones shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Still in half guard, Jones seems content to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Henry Jones showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Jones, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Henry Jones thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
