PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Titan Ramirez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Weidman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Weidman has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Titan Ramirez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Weidman!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Weidman goes for a double leg but Ramirez avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ramirez continues to drive forward.

Ramirez jumps into guard, dragging Weidman to the mat.
Weidman won't allow Ramirez to sweep him here.
Ramirez preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Weidman has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ramirez tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Weidman stands up and waves to Ramirez to follow him.

Ramirez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Weidman to the ground. Ramirez is now in Weidman's guard.
Ramirez has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Weidman looks winded!
Ramirez is stalling in the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ramirez has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Weidman is proving hard to escape from.
Weidman throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Weidman is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ramirez is controlling him.
Ramirez wants to control from the top but Weidman keeps moving.
Ramirez throwing strikes from guard but Weidman blocks nicely.
Weidman is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Weidman will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Weidman with a poor takedown

and Ramirez counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ramirez trying to control the position from guard on top but Weidman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Weidman can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ramirez's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Ramirez tries to free his leg and advance position but Weidman is retaining full guard.
Ramirez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Weidman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ramirez looking to sit in guard and control but Weidman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Weidman connects with a couple of short punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Weidman controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Ramirez utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Weidman gets to his feet - Ramirez follows without any prompting.
Ramirez has his takedown stuffed

and Weidman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Ramirez's guard.
Weidman engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Ramirez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Weidman gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Weidman keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ramirez's head.
Weidman postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Weidman working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Ramirez's head.

Ramirez is working an open guard so Weidman takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Weidman bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Weidman in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Weidman stands up and beckons Ramirez to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Weidman dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Weidman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ramirez pushes Weidman away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Weidman gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Ramirez trying his best to control but Weidman has mounted him.
Weidman controlling the pace for now.
Ramirez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Weidman lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Ramirez hang on?


It looks like Titan Ramirez has been cut.
Weidman content just to control the position here.
Ramirez knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Weidman on the ground.
Ramirez in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Whack. That's a big, big shot from Weidman! Ramirez is out cold! This one is all over!
