Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hans Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kevin Garvey (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hans Gruber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kevin Garvey!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Garvey with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gruber to score with a decent uppercut.
Donk. Garvey catches Gruber right on the button with a cross.


It looks like Hans Gruber has been cut.

Garvey gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Gruber to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Garvey is trying to control the position but Gruber postures up.

Gruber thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Garvey is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garvey utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Gruber is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Garvey preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gruber trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Gruber is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Garvey tries to sprawl but Gruber drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Gruber slips a nice elbow through Garvey's hands, connecting with Garvey's forehead.
Still in half guard, Gruber seems content to control.
Gruber has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Gruber passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Garvey!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gruber lands a big shot there that rocks Garvey but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Gruber lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Garvey tries to hold on but Gruber postures up.
Gruber has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Garvey really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gruber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Poor strikes thrown by Gruber there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gruber postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Garvey looks a forlorn figure.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gruber is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Garvey can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Garvey can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gruber can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Garvey is looking to escape.

Gruber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gruber can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Garvey is looking to escape.

Garvey wants to hold on but Gruber pushes him away.
Gruber lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Gruber working for a submission but Garvey is keeping him at bay.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gruber looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Garvey covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Hans Gruber!
