Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Noel Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mica Makaaja (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith's entrance music is Duality - Slipknot. A fine choice. Makaaja is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by BassLovers United - I Can't Dance. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 31 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Noel Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mica Makaaja!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Daniel Bishop and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith dips to his left and cracks Makaaja with an uppercut!


It looks like Mica Makaaja has been cut.
Smith misses the body punch

so Makaaja counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Makaaja is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Makaaja drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Makaaja jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Smith keeping moving, preventing Makaaja from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Makaaja is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Makaaja drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick Makaaja off! Makaaja jumps back into Smith's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Smith lands a slapping body shot.
Smith misses with an uppercut. Makaaja saw that one coming.
The fighters circling - Smith throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

Makaaja manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Smith on his heels. He'll look to pass Smith's guard now, I'm sure.
Makaaja told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

Makaaja tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Makaaja has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Smith is not content to let Makaaja control the position.
Smith tries to buck Makaaja off but Makaaja is having none of it.

Makaaja goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Smith rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Makaaja's guard! Nice work there by Smith!
Makaaja is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Makaaja is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Makaaja is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Smith sees it coming and defends easily.

Smith dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Smith misses with a looping right.

Smith throws a looping overhand right but Makaaja ducks down to avoid it.

Makaaja looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Smith!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Makaaja passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Smith!
Makaaja can't control as he wanted to and Smith manages to get the fight back to his half guard.

Makaaja wants to work for an arm triangle but Smith is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Makaaja is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Mica Makaaja has got the better of the ground game so far.
Smith is not content to let Makaaja control the position.
Makaaja is looking to stall here but Smith recovers full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Makaaja has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Makaaja has his foot on Smith's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Smith works his way back into a safe position though.

Makaaja is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Makaaja is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.

Makaaja isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Smith stacks Makaaja on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Smith!

That was a close second round but I would say that Noel Smith will probably get the nod.

Makaaja drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.

Smith got a little sloppy there for a moment and Makaaja has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Smith has managed to get both his arms back between Makaaja's legs - danger averted.

Makaaja escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Smith gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Smith wanted to stand there but Makaaja had control of the position.

Makaaja is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Makaaja is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Smith is aware though and is defending well.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Makaaja tries to move into range but Smith moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
The crowd cheers as Smith lands an impressive looking overhand right. Makaaja doesn't seem phased though.
Makaaja avoids the body shot from Smith.
Smith throws a jab but it's blocked by Makaaja.
Makaaja misses with a takedown attempt - Smith sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Smith throws a body shot but no joy.

Smith sends Makaaja crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Smith is motioning to the referee to let Makaaja up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
