Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Shamrock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pierre Morrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Morrell is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Shipbuilding. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johnny Shamrock!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Pierre Morrell!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Morrell looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Johnny Shamrock seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shamrock blocks a jab.
Shamrock pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Morrell has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Shamrock closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Shamrock misses with an uppercut. Morrell saw that one coming.
Morrell slips under a jab.
A solid leg kick lands there for Shamrock.
Shamrock throws a quick inside leg kick.
Shamrock lands an overhand right.
We've been told by Shamrock's head coaches at Boston MMA that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Morrell moves out of range as Shamrock throws a body kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shamrock looks to land a left hand but Morrell moved out of range nicely.
Morrell shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Morrell shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Shamrock defends it nicely.
Morrell connects with a right hand. Shamrock shakes it off.
Johnny Shamrock is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Shamrock throws a push kick but Morrell slaps the foot to one side.
Shamrock throws a low kick, looking for Morrell's leg but Morrell calmly moves out of range.
Morrell misses with the combination.
Shamrock tries to work over Morrell's front leg with a kick but Morrell checks it.
Shamrock finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
A cross from Shamrock lands.


It looks like Pierre Morrell has been cut.
Shamrock throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.
Shamrock misses with a lunging right hand

and Morrell counters with a shoot takedown. Shamrock fights it but they end up in guard.

Morrell postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Shamrock is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Morrell, into his guard.


Shamrock stands up from guard. Let's bang!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A big right from Shamrock misses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Morrell throws a shot from downtown. Shamrock moves away and avoids it.
Shamrock throws a body kick that misses.
Shamrock throws an off balance right hand

and Morrell counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Shamrock looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Morrell digs a right hand into Shamrock's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Shamrock's gas tank.
Shamrock is trying to break free.
A short body shot lands from Morrell as the two fighters clinch.

Shamrock breaks from the clinch.
Morrell connects with a nice looking jab.
Shamrock throws a sloppy head kick and Morrell moves out of range easily.
Shamrock thuds his shin into the meat of Morrell's side.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Shamrock enables Morrell to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Shamrock manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock wants to stand and escape but Morrell is having none of it.
Morrell is pushing down on Shamrock's leg trying to pass to half guard. Shamrock is fighting to maintain full guard but Morrell has managed to sneak the leg through.
Morrell trying to mount his opponent but Shamrock defends it.

Morrell is looking for a kimura but Shamrock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Morrell to get the leverage.
Morrell is looking to take a break and control but Shamrock is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Shamrock pushes Morrell off looking to stand but Morrell dives back in and keeps control.
Morrell is controlling the pace.
Morrell wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shamrock keeps working.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Morrell is looking for a kimura but Shamrock is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Morrell to get the leverage.
Shamrock tries to kick Morrell off but Morrell keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Morrell seems to be working for a kimura but Shamrock defends the submission attempt.

Morrell is trying to work for a kimura but Shamrock is defending well.
Morrell is looking to stall here but Shamrock recovers full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Pierre Morrell will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Pierre Morrell's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Morrell takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Shamrock takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Morrell avoids a kick to the body.
Shamrock scores with a decent looking hook.
Shamrock scores with a sloppy right hand. Morrell should have avoided that one.
A telegraphed right hand from Shamrock misses the target.
Morrell connects with a left and a right that sees a clearly hurt Shamrock covering up! Morrell comes in with a big uppercut and Shamrock goes doooown! He's slumped up against the cage, eyes staring blankly into space.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Pierre Morrell! Pierre Morrell retains his welterweight title!
Pierre Morrell seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
