Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Johan Axelsson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Axelsson's entrance music is Petter - Det går bra nu. A fine choice. James has chosen Tuesday's Gone as his entrance music. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Tommy James enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johan Axelsson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy James!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Axelsson misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from James.
Axelsson throws a hook but James avoids it easily.
James uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Axelsson.

Axelsson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has James pinned against the cage. James gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Axelsson clobbers James with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Axelsson throws a shot from downtown. James moves away and avoids it.
Axelsson swings for the body but James moves out of range.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Axelsson scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Tommy James is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
James fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
James bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
James throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Axelsson stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

James tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Axelsson is able to avoid easily.
No joy there for James, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

James is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

James walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.

Axelsson cracks James with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

Tommy James is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Axelsson throws the left hand but James avoids the punch easily.

James does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
James misses with a series of wild punches.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Axelsson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. James looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Axelsson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
The strikes coming from Axelsson are missing the target in this wave of attacks.

Axelsson sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but James is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Axelsson wants to take a breather but James manages to regain guard - a lesson learnt for Axelsson.
Axelsson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. James swivels though and keeps the full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Johan Axelsson is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Axelsson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but James does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
James wants to get back to full guard.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johan Axelsson.
Well Axelsson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Tommy James spoke after the fight, saying 'I want to thank all you fans for coming out tonight, Fury for helping me be strong,the gang at Canadian Top Team, all of my loved ones back home, and Kyle F for letting me fight here in the HMFL!! I really wanted the win tonight, I'll get it next time.'.
