PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Darin Reed (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Floriano Gualdoni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gualdoni has chosen Can't Hold Us as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Floriano Gualdoni was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Darin Reed!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Floriano Gualdoni!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gualdoni pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Gualdoni tries to bum rush Reed with a series of wild strikes but Reed uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Gualdoni tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Reed paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A combination from Gualdoni does no damage.

Gualdoni closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Gualdoni escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Reed gets tackled into the cage by Gualdoni. Gualdoni maintains the clinch.

Gualdoni breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Reed avoids a punch combination nicely.

Gualdoni shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gualdoni showed some decent athleticism there.
Reed is trying to stand.

Gualdoni is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Reed defends it well.

Gualdoni blocks the strikes from Reed.

Reed has one foot on Gualdoni's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

A slow jab from Gualdoni misses its intended target.
Reed avoids the head kick by Gualdoni.
Gualdoni is looking to clinch.

Gualdoni tries to keep at a distance but Reed has taken the fight into the clinch.
Gualdoni wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Gualdoni stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Gualdoni seems to be looking for submissions.

Reed is trying to stand up here but Gualdoni is controlling him well.
Gualdoni tries to stand and escape but Reed is controlling the position.

Reed has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Gualdoni is on him like a limpet, forcing Reed back against the cage.

Reed throws a big elbow that misses.
Gualdoni looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Reed throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Reed decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Floriano Gualdoni dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Darin Reed's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gualdoni tries to clinch but Reed is having none of it.
Reed misses with a hook.

Gualdoni closes the distance and clinches.
Reed tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Gualdoni avoids it.
Gualdoni has had enough of the clinch but Reed keeps him there for the moment.
Gualdoni creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Reed's defenses.

Gualdoni pulls guard successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reed stopping the sweep attempt from Gualdoni.

Gualdoni wants to stand up but Reed is controlling him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Reed counters with a slapping leg kick.
Gualdoni is breathing heavily.
Gualdoni takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Gualdoni rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Reed moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Reed swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Reed dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.

Gualdoni gets control of Reed's arms and successfully pulls guard. Gualdoni will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Gualdoni is pulling down on Reed's head to control his posture.
Reed postures up in Gualdoni's guard and throws a big left but Gualdoni blocks it.
Reed missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gualdoni has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Reed won't allow Gualdoni to get back to his feet.
Reed has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Reed accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Gualdoni looking to hit a scissor sweep but Reed is one step ahead there.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Reed gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Reed goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Gualdoni gets tackled into the cage by Reed. Reed maintains the clinch.

Reed slowing the pace effectively.
Reed seems to have come into the fight with the intention of avoiding any damage in the clinch, rather than actually showing any aggression.
Reed lands a right uppercut that snaps the head of Gualdoni backwards.
Reed scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Reed breaks the clinch.
Gualdoni tries a head kick but it misses.
Gualdoni throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Reed has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

That was a close second round but I would say that Darin Reed will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Gualdoni looks to land a combination. Reed sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.

Reed pushes Gualdoni up against the cage in a clinch.

Gualdoni has Reed pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Gualdoni pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Reed tumbling to the mat - Gualdoni dives into Reed's guard.

Reed uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Gualdoni takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A looping hook to the body misses from Gualdoni. Reed does a little dance to reset his feet.
Gualdoni fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Gualdoni gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Reed regains guard.

Reed pushes Gualdoni off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Reed closes the distance and clinches.

Gualdoni has hold of one of Reed's legs. Reed is fighting the takedown attempt but Gualdoni gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Reed lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Gualdoni has momentary wrist control but Reed slips an elbow through the middle.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Reed gets to his feet. Gualdoni looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Gualdoni has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Reed is trying to keep an underhook but Gualdoni manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Reed is not content to let Gualdoni control the position.

Reed manages to escape and get back to his feet!

The fighters are working up against the cage. Reed manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Reed breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Floriano Gualdoni seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Reed avoids a punch combination nicely.
Reed avoids the head kick by Gualdoni.

Darin Reed showed his dominance in that final round.
