PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Delphino Atlantis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Orange Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Atlantis comes to the cage accompanied by cream - those were the days. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Delphino Atlantis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Orange Joe!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe tries to land a leg kick but Atlantis saw it coming and moves away.
We've been informed that Joe has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Orange Joe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Atlantis moves away from the strike by Joe.
Joe loads up on a big right hand but Atlantis slips the punch.
Atlantis looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
A clash of legs there as Atlantis blocks the low kick.
Joe attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin.
Joe pivots, looking for a leg kick but Atlantis is out of range and Joe settles back down.
Atlantis avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe looks for a takedown but Atlantis sprawls well.
Joe throws a lazy right hand but Atlantis sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

A solid leg kick lands there for Joe.
Joe misses with a head kick.
Joe misses with a body kick.
Atlantis misses with a takedown attempt - Joe sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

and Atlantis counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Joe trying to hold on to Atlantis's head to control him but Atlantis postures up.

Atlantis is looking for a kimura here.
Joe is trying to control but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Joe wants to get back to full guard.
Joe is controlling Atlantis's trapped leg to prevent Atlantis from advancing to side control.

Atlantis is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Atlantis trying to mount his opponent but Joe defends it.
Joe is looking for a sweep. Atlantis is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Atlantis wants to free his trapped foot but Joe is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Joe is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Atlantis pulls his head out easily.
Atlantis wants to take a breather but Joe is having none of it.
Joe wants to control but Atlantis is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Joe might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Atlantis haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Atlantis buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Joe punishes Atlantis's body with a nice straight punch.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Joe, right into the meat.
Joe throws a low kick but Atlantis moves out of range easily.

Joe is looking to score with low kicks.
Atlantis takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Joe missing with a left hand there. Atlantis was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Joe misses with a few strikes there.

Joe feints and as Atlantis raises his hands in defense, Joe changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Joe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Joe throwing strikes from guard but Atlantis blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Orange Joe dominated that round.
That's time! Atlantis's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Joe throws a hook to the side of Atlantis's head but Atlantis sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A looping hook to the body misses from Joe. Atlantis does a little dance to reset his feet.
Atlantis keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Joe scores with a sloppy right hand. Atlantis should have avoided that one.
Atlantis blocks a jab.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Joe throws a head kick but Atlantis moves out of range.
Atlantis moves out of range of the body kick.

and Atlantis counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Atlantis wants to pass the guard but Joe is keeping the position.
Joe wants to sweep here but Atlantis controlling him for the moment.
Atlantis lands a couple of digs.

Atlantis thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Joe keeping full guard, as Atlantis tries to pass.

Atlantis is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Joe is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Joe has escaped and now he's on top!

Joe stands up over Atlantis, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Joe is stalling in the full guard.

Atlantis escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Joe gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Joe throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Atlantis works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Joe with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Joe working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Joe is working Atlantis over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Joe passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Atlantis takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Joe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Atlantis tries to improve position but can't.
Atlantis sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Joe stalling away here and it's allowed Atlantis to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Joe postures up.
Atlantis wants to control but Joe passes easily into half guard.
Joe sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Atlantis defending well though.
Atlantis is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Joe scores with a couple of nice shots.

Atlantis is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Joe jumps into side control!
Orange Joe has got the better of the ground game so far.
Joe is chipping away with strikes.
Atlantis manages to get back to half guard.
Atlantis manages to get to full guard.

Atlantis looking for a guillotine here but Joe defends easily.
Joe works over Atlantis with some ground and pound from guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Joe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Atlantis has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Joe has managed to get both his arms back between Atlantis's legs - danger averted.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Orange Joe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Joe fails to land the takedown.
Joe attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Joe pushes Atlantis away with a front kick.
Joe shoots in looking for a takedown but Atlantis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Joe's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Joe will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Atlantis takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Joe throws a shot from downtown. Atlantis moves away and avoids it.
Atlantis moves out of range of the leg kick from Joe.
Joe throws a leg kick but Atlantis sees it coming and moves out of range.
Joe dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Atlantis. That did some damage!
Joe misses with a low kick.
Joe fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Atlantis on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Joe. Joe obviously looking to wear him down.
A looping hook to the body misses from Joe. Atlantis does a little dance to reset his feet.

Joe looks to score with a jab to the body but Atlantis is just out of range.
Atlantis stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Joe.
Delphino Atlantis has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Joe wants to land a leg kick but Atlantis is out of range.
Atlantis moves out of range of the strikes.
Joe misses with a leg kick

and Atlantis counters with a single leg into guard. Joe didn't expect that.
Atlantis pushes down on Joe's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Atlantis lands a nice short elbow.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Atlantis is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Atlantis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Joe defends it well.
Joe trying to control but Atlantis postures up.
Atlantis wants to lay and pray for a moment but Joe keeps working.
Joe keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Joe manages to get to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Joe has momentary wrist control but Atlantis slips an elbow through the middle.
Atlantis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Joe has his hands on Atlantis's head, controlling the position.
Joe looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Atlantis puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Orange Joe is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Joe is looking to improve his position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Atlantis working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Atlantis throwing shots but Joe is blocking nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Orange Joe.
I've got Joe winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

A relieved looking Orange Joe thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
Delphino Atlantis spoke after the fight, saying 'He slippery dolphinned me me, I need to see a doctor and a therapist in no particular order.'.
