Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mathew Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Veener Shnitzelle!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Bruno Lombardi and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shnitzelle misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Shnitzelle shoots in and bounces Garza off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Garza is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shnitzelle defends well.
Garza looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Garza is trying to keep Shnitzelle in close.
Shnitzelle trying to control the position from guard on top but Garza is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Garza is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Garza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shnitzelle's guard.

Shnitzelle drives through with a takedown into Garza's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Garza wants to get back to his feet but Shnitzelle is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Garza knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Shnitzelle on the ground.

Garza throws his legs up looking for a submission but Shnitzelle uses it to pass to side control.

I wouldn't like to be where Garza is right now.
Shnitzelle wants to control but Garza is keeping him busy.
Garza pushes Shnitzelle away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Shnitzelle gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Garza is trying to get back to half guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Garza tries to clinch up but Shnitzelle circles away and keeps his distance.

That was a close round but I would say that Mathew Garza will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Garza is looking to clinch but Shnitzelle is avoiding it.

Garza fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Shnitzelle to the ground. Garza is now in Shnitzelle's guard.

Shnitzelle is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Shnitzelle has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Garza loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Shnitzelle closes this distance looking for a takedown but Garza circles away.
Garza avoids the head kick by Shnitzelle.

Garza moves into the clinch.

Garza gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Garza looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Shnitzelle with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

and Garza counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Garza.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Garza manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Shnitzelle might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Garza haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Shnitzelle is looking to stand up but Garza won't let him.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Garza wants to clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
A head kick misses from Shnitzelle.
Shnitzelle has his takedown stuffed

and Garza counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Shnitzelle!

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Garza thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Garza is trying to get an arm triangle but Shnitzelle is defending well.
Garza will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Garza has his foot on Shnitzelle's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Shnitzelle works his way back into a safe position though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Shnitzelle is keen to just control but Garza is a slippery customer.
Shnitzelle is looking to advance position but Garza won't allow it.
Garza is staying active underneath Shnitzelle, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Garza, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
