PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zeus Leonidas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lyes Badaoui (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lyes Badaoui told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lyes Badaoui!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Tiny Johnson and Frank Dennis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Badaoui throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Badaoui wants to clinch but Leonidas slips to the side

and Leonidas counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Leonidas.
Badaoui wants to sweep here but Leonidas controlling him for the moment.

Badaoui is striking from the bottom but Leonidas uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Badaoui wants to get back to full guard.

Badaoui tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Leonidas has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Badaoui tries to reverse the position but Leonidas maintains control.
Badaoui has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Badaoui is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Leonidas wants to get back to his feet but Badaoui is holding on tight.
Leonidas prevents Badaoui from getting the reversal.

Badaoui shoots for a takedown but Leonidas saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Badaoui moves in looking to clinch but Leonidas pushes him off.
Badaoui fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

and Leonidas counters with a shoot takedown. Badaoui fights it but they end up in guard.

Leonidas stands up from Badaoui's guard - Leonidas perhaps looking for a knockout.

and Leonidas counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Lyes Badaoui seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Leonidas misses with a looping left.

Badaoui dives in for a single leg takedown but Leonidas sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Zeus Leonidas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyes Badaoui.
Leonidas is pressed up against the cage. Badaoui has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Leonidas down to the mat. Leonidas avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Badaoui closes the distance but Leonidas moves to the side

so Leonidas counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zeus Leonidas dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Badaoui tries to clinch there but Leonidas circles away.
Badaoui tries to close the distance and clinch up but Leonidas swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Leonidas looks to land a right hand but Badaoui moved out of range.
Badaoui takes a swing at Leonidas's ribcage but misses.
Leonidas defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Badaoui.
Leonidas lunges at Badaoui with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Badaoui's hand.
Leonidas connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Badaoui's hands.
Badaoui misses with a looping right.

Horrible takedown attempt by Badaoui or perhaps it was just good defense by Leonidas, which made it look bad.
Badaoui shoots in looking for a takedown but Leonidas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Badaoui's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Zeus Leonidas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lyes Badaoui.
Leonidas looks to throw the jab but Badaoui is out of range.

Badaoui fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Badaoui doesn't manage to clinch there - Leonidas circles away.

Leonidas drops Badaoui with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Badaoui looks back up at him and smiles so Leonidas waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.

and Leonidas counters with a powerful cross that connects right on the chin and the lights go out! A massive one punch knock out!

A relieved looking Zeus Leonidas thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
