PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Garcia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Michael Martin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Garcia comes into the arena with Vendetta - Slipknott blaring out of the sound system. Michael Martin is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Michael Martin!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Donk. Martin catches Garcia right on the button with a cross.
Garcia tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
A telegraphed right hand from Martin misses the target.
Martin misses the shot to the body.

Martin moves into the clinch.

Martin ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Martin no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Martin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Garcia is stalling in the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Martin manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Garcia leaves Martin with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Martin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

Martin pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Garcia throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Martin fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Garcia doesn't manage to clinch there - Martin circles away.
Garcia misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Martin.
Jesus Garcia seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Martin fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Martin feints and as Garcia raises his hands in defense, Martin changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Garcia is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Michael Martin dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Garcia clinches up with Martin and pushes him back against the cage.
Martin tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Garcia avoids it.

Martin throws a series of punches but Garcia avoids them all with ease.

and Martin counters by moving into the clinch.

Martin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Martin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Garcia scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Martin fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Garcia avoids it really well and circles away.
Garcia rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Martin moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Martin looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Martin swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Garcia counters with a nice double leg into side control. Martin won't be happy with that.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Garcia decides to stand back up. Garcia steps back and let's Martin get back to his feet.

Garcia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Martin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Martin is looking to work some ground and pound but Garcia has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Martin misses with a takedown attempt - Garcia sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Martin goes for a double leg but Garcia avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Garcia continues to drive forward.
Martin is trying to force a seperation but Garcia has the dominant position.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Garcia throws a right hand that Martin ducks under and follows up with a left that Martin also avoids with ease.

Martin looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Garcia is staying active underneath Martin, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Garcia is looking for a sweep. Martin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Garcia is trying to control but can't.
Garcia wants to get back to his feet.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Martin connects with a nice short shot to Garcia's temple.
Michael Martin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Martin thows a huge punch but Garcia dodges it nicely.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Martin shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Garcia counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Martin scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

Garcia shoots for a takedown but Martin saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Martin loads up on a big right hand but Garcia slips the punch.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Garcia.

I would just about give that final round to Michael Martin.
I think Martin has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
