Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mathew Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, D Angelo Hall!
The judges for this bout are Alyssa Summers, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hall tries to clinch up but Garza circles away and keeps his distance.
Garza tries to close the distance and clinch but Hall swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
D Angelo Hall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Garza displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Hall.

and Garza counters with a takedown into side control.
Mathew Garza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of D Angelo Hall.
Hall is looking for a sweep.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hall is trying to control Garza's posture but Garza avoids it.

Garza is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hall knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Hall tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Garza wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Garza creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Hall tries to improve position but can't.
Hall is trying to control Garza's posture but Garza avoids it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Hall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Garza's waist but Garza gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hall off to one side.
Hall bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.

Hall shoots in and drives through. Garza sprawls well.

and Garza counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Garza.

Hall is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Garza is keeping busy.
Garza jumps guard but Hall stands there with Garza around his waist. Garza gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Hall dives in and grabs Garza's left leg, looking for a takedown. Garza pushes down on Hall's head and hops out.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Garza here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

Hall throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Garza is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hall sees it coming and defends easily.

Hall has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Garza is working away from the top position though.

Garza is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Hall still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Hall has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Hall tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Garza defends well and Hall ends up having to push Garza into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Hall keeps control of Garza as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Garza is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hall can do to turn this around?

Hall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hall tries to stand but Garza is controlling from the bottom.
Hall stops Garza from standing up.
Hall wants to control from the top but Garza keeps moving.
Garza is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hall is controlling him.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Hall decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Hall is looking to take a break and control but Garza is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Garza is looking to improve his position.
Hall tries to pass the half guard into mount. Garza knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Garza is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hall pulls his head out easily.

D Angelo Hall comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Garza has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
