PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Alex Doumbos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sum Yung Gai (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Ben Hemmingworth and Francis DeMontford.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doumbos shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Doumbos showed some decent athleticism there.
Gai blocking the ground and pound attempt from Doumbos.

Doumbos is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gai is just riding it out for now. Doumbos eventually gives up the hold.
Doumbos will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Doumbos is looking for a kimura but Gai is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Doumbos to get the leverage.

Gai makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Doumbos moves into range and connects with a jab.
Doumbos throws a right and a left that Gai avoids nicely.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Gai checks a leg kick.
Nice sprawl there from Doumbos as Gai shoots in.
Gai steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Doumbos. That one must have hurt.
Doumbos cracks Gai with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
Doumbos misses with a jab, cross combination.

Doumbos drives through and clinches with Gai against the cage.
Doumbos is looking for a takedown.
Gai can't break the clinch.

Gai pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A slow jab from Doumbos misses its intended target.
Doumbos fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Gai ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Doumbos moves away.

Gai lands a left and a right that send Doumbos crashing to the mat, dazed. Gai thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Doumbos is rocked!

It looks like Alex Doumbos has been cut.

Gai closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Gai lands in his opponent's guard.
Oh Doumbos is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

Gai might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Doumbos haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Gai thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Gai wants to control from the top but Doumbos keeps moving.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Doumbos is on top in guard.

Gai escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Doumbos gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Doumbos working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Gai's head.

Gai has an active guard here but Doumbos has managed to pass into half guard.
Gai tries to roll over but Doumbos keeps him under control.
Doumbos thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Gai's head.
Doumbos looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Gai with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Gai wants to control but Doumbos is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Doumbos throws a strike but Gai avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Doumbos works over Gai with some ground and pound from guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Alex Doumbos will probably get the nod.

Gai has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Doumbos is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gai.

A big strike lands for Doumbos! That's really hurt Gai and he's turned his back - Doumbos keeps firing away and the ref dives in to stop the fight! Doumbos jumps to his feet to celebrate the victory!
