PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Doyle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Mickey Doyle has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mickey Doyle!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Alex James!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Damien Edna and Ben Hemmingworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James misses with a combination
and Doyle counters with a right hand to the body.
James misses with a body punch
letting Doyle counter with a right hand.

James has managed to clinch.
Good anti-grappling being displayed by James as Doyle tries to tie him up.
Doyle can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James breaks the clinch.
James does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
A little feinted left hand from Doyle on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
James throws a looping overhand right but Doyle ducks down to avoid it.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from James.

James pushes Doyle up against the cage in a clinch.
James is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Doyle is defending well.
Doyle trying to stall but James improves his position.
James tries for a takedown. No joy.
Mickey Doyle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Alex James.
Doyle is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but James is keeping busy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

James pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
James looks to throw a body kick
and Doyle counters with a lovely straight right hand!
James displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Doyle throws out the jab.
James throws a right and a left that Doyle avoids nicely.
Doyle connects with a crisp jab.

James shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Doyle is trying to defend but James finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Doyle has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. James is working away from the top position though.
James with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Doyle wants to get back to full guard.
Doyle trying to control from the bottom.
Doyle is trying to stand.
James looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
James throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

James is working for a submission of some sort.
James takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Doyle trying to hold on to James's head to control him but James postures up.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Doyle is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
James misses with a combination
and Doyle counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
James lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
James swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
James shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Doyle as he avoids it easily.
An attempted straight right counter from Doyle misses the target.
Mickey Doyle is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
James looks to throw the jab but Doyle is out of range.
James pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Doyle smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Doyle lands a lovely overhand right.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doyle walks forward and throws a big overhand right! James drops to the floor like a sack of potatoes! Doyle swarms on him with more punches until the referee wrestles him away from James's unconscious body! Wow, that was brutal!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mickey Doyle!
A relieved looking Mickey Doyle thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
