PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rob Gilas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Owen Gaines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gilas's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Remember The Name - Fort Minor. Owen Gaines will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Rob Gilas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Owen Gaines!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaines bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gilas gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.


It looks like Rob Gilas has been cut.
Gilas looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Some wild striking there from Gaines.
Gilas throws a shot from downtown. Gaines moves away and avoids it.
Gilas fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gaines manages to avoid it.

Gilas drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Gilas postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Gilas is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Gaines working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gilas.
Gilas in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Gilas missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gaines controls Gilas momentarily but Gilas frees himself.
Gilas throws a strike but Gaines rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Gaines really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gilas. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gilas wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gaines makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Gaines looking to sit in guard and control but Gilas gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gaines is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gaines prevents Gilas from improving his position.
Gilas is refusing to be controlled, as Gaines sits in half guard.

Gilas on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Gilas tries to get out of the position.
Gilas is not content to let Gaines control the position.
Gaines throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Gilas to regain full guard.
Gilas is adopting a defensive guard.
Gilas wants to sweep here but Gaines controlling him for the moment.

Gilas is controlling Gaines's posture.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gilas is on top in guard.

Gilas loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Gilas works over Gaines with some ground and pound from guard.
Gaines is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Gaines wants to stand but Gilas is controlling the position.
Gaines is pulling down on Gilas's head to control his posture.
Gilas is pushing down on Gaines's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gaines is fighting to maintain full guard but Gilas has managed to sneak the leg through.
Gilas takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Gilas throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gilas lands a nice short elbow.
Gilas is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Gaines is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gilas slips a nice elbow through Gaines's hands, connecting with Gaines's forehead.


Gaines is rocked!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gilas just misses with a punch to the body.
Gilas showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Gaines.

Gaines scores with a hook.
Gaines uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gilas.
Gilas checks a leg kick nicely.

and Gaines counters with a head kick that drops Gilas to the mat! Gilas scrambles across the canvas and gets back to his feet, still wobbly!

and Gilas counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Oh Gilas is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gilas thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Gilas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gaines avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gilas.
Gilas sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Gaines defending well though.
Gaines trying to control but Gilas postures up.
Gilas seems to have got his legs back now.
Gilas slips a nice elbow through Gaines's hands, connecting with Gaines's forehead.

Gilas lands strikes from half guard.
Gilas lands a big elbow - Gaines is out of it! He's waving his arms around but his eyes are closed and he's not intelligently defending himself - the ref has no choice but to jump in and stop the fight! This one is in the books! A TKO win for Gilas!
